Marquette Basketball thread 2021-2022

I believe Marquette is in but they are hanging around the 8-10 seed territory. If they can win one or two games I think they will get an 8 seed in the tournament. Marquette is going to be a dangerous team in the tournament if they get hot. I think Marquette is going to be the popular upset pick and I wouldn't be surprised to see them go on a run where they get two or three wins in the tournament.

Just asking, if they get an eight seed, they would play a 1 in the second round. Is there a potential one-seed that you think Marquette matches up best with? If they were a 7, is there a two you would like to see?

I think of the potential #1 seeds, probably Kansas is the best matchup for them and Gonzaga probably the worst. Obviously teams are #1 seeds for a reason so there isn't a great answer to that question. Right now ESPN has Marquette as a 7. As far as 2's, i'd love a chance to take out Duke as a 2, but I think Kentucky is probably Marquette's best potential opponent. (I think UW is a 2, and Marquette will not play them in the first 2 rounds since they played in the regular season).

Yeah, the committee is supposed to avoid regular season rematches until the Sweet 16, but it has happened before, right? I don't think that's as hard and fast a rule as "BYU can't play Sunday" or even "don't match two teams from the same conference. in round 1."

I would imagine UW is in Milwaukee, and MU can't play there, though, so that probably solves that.

So, is Marquette still considered an NCAA tourney lock? OR, are they now trending NIT? Thoughts from any of ye Marquette faithful would be appreciated. I thought Indiana winning today might muddy that picture but, truthfully, I've only peripherally been paying attention to the NCAA this season.

They were a lock before. So still a lock now. The conference tournament would have only helped their seeding nothing more.

They are probably an 8 seed at best right now and maybe a 10 at the lowest.

Thanks. Sure seems like Creighton had their number this year. They just couldn't flip the script there.

Creighton winning is better for the Big East...I think Marquette was in the 8-9 either way. Honestly, I'd rather be an 11 than an 8, so if Marquette becomes a 10, not the worst thing.

I agree on the open tourney. Gonzaga feels like the best team, but there's about 8 teams I'd give realistic shots.

I agree, i think they are somewhere in the 8-10 range. Maybe a run in the big apple could have got them up to a 6. they are 6-7 vs quad 1 teams, which puts them T-16 in the nation. Their net is 42, kenpom 48.

Patrick, are you at all worried about ending up in Dayton? I would be very surprised if that happened (that's likely the 11- or 12-seed line), but, in a committee process, weird stuff can happen. Would be interested in pro-MU take.

I feel like it's only like a 5-10% chance that happens, but lots of bubble-ish teams are playing well right now.

I could easily see the Badges being one of the first round upset victims. They’re not playing good basketball right now and when Davis doesn’t play well, they’re every bit the tenth place team in the B10 the experts thought they’d be.

Considering that the 1, 2, and 4 seeds lost to the 9th, 7th, and 5th seeds, and the 11th seed was beating the 3rd seed for most of the first half I think it's fair to say that the actual difference between the 10th seed and the tied-for-1st team is far far closer than first perception would guess. That's kind of always the way the B1G goes though, outside of maybe '15 UW, '05 UI, and '99/'00 MSU who were all clearly elite national championship type teams who were better than the rest of the conference.

Just like last year, right?
