This is exactly the type of trade the Brewers should be making. Grab a player from a team with a roster crunch. I know people on this site were hoping for a trade for this guy a year or two ago. This is worth the risk to see if he can rebound next year. The cost is another hard throwing RP to Tampa. Riefert looked good last year except for the walks. His control will hold him back if he cannot fix that.

I sure wish Stearns would stop trading pitching though. We are in serious short supply in the minors with the past few trades and the focus on hitting in the draft and international signings.

Edit: When I hear his name, I keep thinking about Mark Brouhard https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/brouhma01.shtml Another guy I am going to have to look up each time to see how his name is spelled. Let's hope Brosseau has a better Brewers career.

Had a bad offensive season last season but was pretty good the 2 seasons prior

Replacement for Jace?

Hopefully we never see Pablo Reyes again

Pablo had some big moments last year, why the hate for him?

The amount of excitement trades like this bring a lot of posters on Brewerfan.net, tells you all you need to know, really. Trades like this aren't needle movers in the least. No wonder Stearns is so desired in baseball circles, when he's making franchise changing moves like this. Someone wake me when he acquires some actual talent via trade or signs a Castellanos or something.

Sometimes, moves that seem small at the time can be big ones.

Hernan Perez was a waiver wire piece. He ended up being a valuable bench asset from 2017-2019.

Manny Pina was a throw-in on a trade for K-Rod. He's been around for a while, a solid backup catcher, and not too bad as the Crew's primary bacstop in 2018.

Jace Peterson wasn't much of a needle-mover in 2020, but was a highly valuabe bench asset in 2021.

Brosseau rebounding to his 2019-2020 form gives the Crew someone who can give Urias, Wong, and Adames days off. He's an option at first against lefties, and he can spend some time in the outfield. He does appear to be very good on defense, so the Crew could go bat-first to complement someone at a position they need help at.

Remember this was said after we acquired Willy Adames

"That David Stearns man....easily always the smartest guy in the room...the team is struggling offensively, so they need a bat(s) badly..Stearns says "hold my beer", and what does he do?? Goes out and gets a career .254 hitter, or maybe it is the current .197 BA that he wanted so badly...or perhaps...the .254 OBP. Absolutely stellar! Nothing says "I'll turn this offense around, just you wait", more than going out and getting the big bat of Wily Adames. Well done DS..I can see why so many Brewer fans think you're so great! *whew*"

Boy you can sound dumb. While the player himself may not excite you, how about a move to non tender an Arby player saving a few mil that just...hear me out on this... may be used to sign somebody that does. I would think Vogelbach is on his way to being non-tendered. You have the RH compliment for Tellez and Wong as mentioned in MLBTR. Kinda fits exactly where Vogelbach doesn't on the roster.

When Stearns hires Timmons as a hitting coach, you think he slides a yellow legal pad and a pen across the table and asks for a list of undervalued steals they can try and land? I really think that Stearns and Brewers brass had their own ideas and could get some names to confirm what they were thinking. If not this exact scenario, to what extent did Timmons influence this move?

Seems like Al Davis would do something like this in the old days of the NFL.

Makes me wonder who we will get from the Mariners next...

I totally understand not being excited about about a minor deal for a depth piece like this. Not every acquisition is going to be the needle-mover variety.

But that is absolutely no reason to call out posters who are enthusiastic about this move. Stop it.

This reminds me a little bit of the Rowdy Tellez (age 26) acquisition during the season. Both are players that have had up and down MLB performances, but each had very strong minor league track records.

The Brewers are doing exactly what they should by continuing to acquire guys that are in the midst of the expected peak production years for hitters (ages 26-28). They obviously don’t always work out, but when they do they can pay big dividends. Some hitters within their expected peak ages when acquired in relatively low cost transactions during the Stearns era that have gone on to have an impact include Jesús Aguilar (age 27), Travis Shaw (age 26), Omar Narvaez (age 28).

Not just “at Night” anymore.
