Jaire still more than likely isn't going to play and I wouldn't read much into his activation. I guess the one good thing you can read from it is that they plan on him playing this season, but beyond that it is likely procedural. He had to either be activated today or shut down for the season.

Rodgers made some comments relating to his future and the Packers during his weekly press conference.

- "not ruling out retirement" but loves playing the game

- "enjoyed the process of growing and building a stronger relationship with general manager Brian Gutekunst and appreciates everything the team has done to make real changes this year, including giving him insight on moves that directly affect his job"

- "loves playing for Matt LaFleur and the rest of the Packers coaching staff"

- On deciding about retirement/coming back, he "won’t drag out the process" and "expects it to be a quick one"

I interpret that as he'll use retirement as leverage to get a few things he wants but will ultimately be back next year. Hopefully Rodgers is keen to their salary cap situation and understands they will have to cut some people and can't just restructure everyone. Good to hear that it will be a quick decision, so they can structure his contract accordingly and move on quickly to getting Adams back.

Yes, I didn’t know about the deadline thing earlier but since we are only sure there are 3 mores games this season I think it is getting a little late for these guys so the activation has to mean he is close? I was thinking maybe they will IR Bak now as we can’t keep too many guys on the 53 who can’t play.

Between bakh, jaire, and z. smith its probably time to either have them give it a go before the end of the season or they gotta get put on IR if there's roster issues that make it hard to keep them active but not playing. For all of these guys, they need regular season snaps for me to even envision wanting them on the field in the playoffs.

If they can't play in week 18 at Detroit, I don't see how they can be counted on in the playoffs even with a 1st round bye.

Well, it's two more weeks to heal and prepare. Smith can definitely wait until then, all he's going to do at this point is pass rusher anyhow. Even Alexander can come back in the playoffs and instantly be at least the 3rd best CB. I agree that Bakh needs playing time prior to the playoffs.

No sense trying to parse anything Rodgers says. It's just talk. If they win the SB would not surprise me if he retires. If they don't, any option is on the table.

Exactly. Rodgers is such a weird dude that whatever he says is just literally *words*. Even if it's not, he can twist it around to mean what he needs it to mean at some random point in the future anyways, so interpreting it now to mean anything is a fruitless exercise.

Cousins kinda sucks, so this isn't a huge loss for the Vikings. They'll ram Dalvin Cook into the LOS 38 times instead of 32 times now.

Cousins is pretty solidly average, at worst. 3 straight seasons of a QBR over 100. Even if he doesn't make the big splashy plays, I'd say a guy that puts up his numbers doesn't "suck". Vikings defense isn't very good, and he's saddled with a coach who lacks imagination (where have we seen that before).

Dude's on track to put up some very solid career numbers before he's done. He's not terrible, he's just not in the class of a Rodgers/Brady/Mahomes.

He's also been blessed to have otherworldly receivers in Diggs, Thielen and now Jefferson that have certainly made him look better than he is. Not to mention one of the top all-purpose backs in the NFL in Cook. The Vikings have surrounded a soundly mediocre (at best) QB in Cousins with superstar level skill position talent, arguably at the sacrifice of other more pressing roster needs. The Packers have taken the opposite approach for the most part. Put Rodgers on the Vikings, and that offense would be unstoppable. Put Cousins on the Packers, and you have a 4-win team.

We can poo poo Cousins all we want, but he's still one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world, and he's arguably having the best season of his career. It's not translating to the Vikings overall record, but he ranks toward the bottom of reasons why. I know I'm excited about getting to face Sean Mannion instead of Cousins.

Sure, and guys like Diggs and Jefferson can't put up the numbers they do without someone competent getting them the ball. Jefferson is putting up the best *numbers* season in his first two years that a guy has ever had in the NFL. That doesn't happen with a *suck* QB.

I already said that Cousins isn't in the class of Rodgers/Brady/Mahomes, but you absolutely can't put up three straight 100 QBR seasons just because you have good receivers. I get it, you hate the guy because he's a Viking (I do too), but he's not THAT bad.

Me too, Cousins killed us with some late throws just before the rush got him last game. Plus losing the QB this late can’t be good for the confidence of a team that has to win. Get up a couple of scores early and we should coast but we haven’t seen that much recently.

Spread just went from -7 to -13. Wow

and yet the game will come down to a score late.

Yes Packers will go from up 6 to up 13 :)

A Viking fan friend of mine said that Adams was a "nothing WR" and Rodgers made him great. His evidence was how Gregg Jennings came to the Vikings and stunk.

So many things wrong with that statement, I could only just laugh.... But clearly, when a WR is making all-pro and setting records, it is both the QB and the WR that deserves some credit. That goes for Rodgers-Adam/Nelson/Jennings as it does for Cousins-Diggs/Theilen/Jefferson.

For my friend, I told him to watch Adam's footwork as a big part of what makes him great. After I told him that, Adams had that ridiculous juke at the goal line against the Bears and caught a wide-open TD.

I don't know if your friend is 100% incorrect on his premise. Rodgers has managed to make some pedestrian WRs look pretty dang good over the years. For instance James Jones was very good as a Packer, then left and washed out at two different spots before coming back and playing as a pretty effective starting NFL WR again. Yes, part of that is scheme, but it is also familiarity and a comfort level with an extremely talented passer.

That said, Adams has proven that he can continue to put up star WR numbers with the likes of Hundley and Kizer throwing him the ball. That would lead me to believe he'd be a star with any QB, as he's the type of talent, much like Theilen or Jefferson, who can make a QB look better.

Cousins is a typical mediocre NFL QB. Good enough to start for maybe half of the teams in the NFL, but not a guy who is going to make marginal NFL talent look better. He needs to be surrounded by stars to look competent.

I forgot about the stock sale but just read some chat with Murphy and he said they had sold 182,000 shares as of yesterday. Considering I think they sold 120K in the first couple of days and Christmas has passed it looks like they will fall well short of 300,000. Unless of course they win the Super Bowl. Still, raising 60 million was more than I would have guessed without a recent Super Bowl behind them.
