Overall perception of the game:

Defense: Wow. Yes, The Chiefs have struggled, but still an overall very good game. And without perhaps our two best players and two best CBs. P-Smith has seemed to disappear, but Gary just keeps coming on. Lancaster actually did pretty well too. They did have some struggles to stop the run after Clark was out injured, but otherwise a very good game. That game was the first time this year that Barnes looked like the Barnes of last year. Overall, the unit seems to be continually improving and playing as a unit finally. Still have to figure out how to keep a team outside the endzone once you are inside the 20, but...

Love: Obviously, a lot of work to do, but he made me feel much better the second half. Seemed like his throws were coming out faster, more decisive, more accurate, and better decisions in the second half. Needs to figure out his blitz protections more, but that will come. Didn't totally panic when under blitz, so that is something (see Mertz).

ST: Wow... Just wow. If we hit the 2 FGs and not touch the punt inside the 10 yd line, we (theoretically) win 13-10.

With the new long snapper in his first game, I feel like we will get that fixed. We know Rodgers will be back with Bahk so the offense will improve. And the defense looks pretty good even with the chance to get better with Z-Smith and Jaire.

For a loss (which I was expecting), I came out feeling pretty good about the team.

Anyone enlighten me on 'Petals'?

Guessing it's a reference to LaFleur, given the translation of his last name.

LOL, yes. Apologies. It's a nickname my Father and I coined for him at hire. Completely forgot this isn't common parlance.

La Fleur translates in French, essentially, to flower. Hence, we jokingly called him 'Petals'. This was essentially after everyone began calling Gutekunst 'Gutey' - which we both found odd. Anywho, again, apologies. I may unconsciously do that from time-to-time. Apologies in advance.

Deep dive into Love's start:

(I believe this is former Packer QB JT O'Sullivan)

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Good stuff..

That was great explanation on play breakdown. What I got from it was #70 isn't a starter ATM, Love will need to improve pre-snap and help insight on pass protection. Jones may be the most beneficial to that thought as he had some misses.

Best yet was footwork commentary and why Love missed his throws. That is something you would think Love is coached on to learn from the tape and then work to improve. Those two slide jump throws in a row may be him overcited how open WR WR and rushed the throw

Wondering how much the loss of Tonyan affected the blitz pickup and not having him available to run the seam routes hurt.

Well it shouldn't. Deguara and Dafney should be next man up capable to block from that position. Obviously, they would hurt on route as Dafney showed on 1st drive on the youtube commentary.

Absolutely excellent stuff. He was left to the wolves. As I said earlier in the thread (and agreed with others): Love was far far from the issues that lost that game. Did he miss some throws? Absolutely. BUT, you have a rookie, on the road, in his first start you want as clean a sheet as you can have in the backfield. A-Rod masks so much with his GOAT play...how lucky are we? Thanks for the share. Very enjoyable to watch.
