Brewers TV news

Really sucks that BA is only doing 50 games .....such a huge drop off from him to everyone else. I won't miss Lepay but I actually liked him better then Levering.

Some Brewers broadcasting news:

- Brian Anderson will do 50g on TV in '22 as his national profile continues to expand.

- Jeff Levering's TV role is expanding; he'll do play-by-play on all other Bally Sports WI telecasts.

- Matt Lepay's Brewers tenure is ending after 8 seasons.

I'm to the point that BA's absence annoys me.

If we are only going to have him for less than a 1/3 of the season, maybe it's time to cut him loose.

I like the consistency of the same guys every game. I'm starting to not view him as a Brewer announcer, but instead, a fill-in.

Same. It felt like there were as many announcing combinations as lineups taking the field this season.

From that perspective, I'm glad Levering will be the primary. Lepay was in an odd place since he was the backup, but he's still contractually committed to UW-Madison if they need him for a canned food drive or to film a commercial. Then Levering already had a job on radio, so they were down to the 4th stringer, Coshun, for a few games.

Add in that Schroeder (understandably) likely saw the come and go as you please privileges as BA and opted to take some extra family time, and you never know who was going to be on the call.

This seams to be a trend around baseball. I have the extra innings package and virtually every team seems to rotate guys or give their main guys vacations. Great job if you can get it but as a fan, I like the familiarity. At least they are down to two and while Lepay is good on hoops and football, I just never enjoyed him all that much on baseball.

I too am a bit annoyed by BAs regular absences and almost wish they would just hire a new tandem. How different things are when Merle Harmon asked for two weeks off to cover the Olympics and they wouldn't let him do it so they let him go. Olympics never even happened due to the boycott. I really liked Harmon and Uecker together back in the day.

The bucks just had a massive turnover on their broadcast team, i think this is the beginning of the same for the brewers. Not sure how much longer Rock and Ueck will be doing it. BA is not even half time anymore. We are fortunate to have great broadcasters who have been here forever. Thats not the case for every team.

I take the opposite perspective. BA’s career has advanced far beyond the point where he needs to be doing play-by-play for a small market team like the Brewers. The fact that both sides are willing to make a deal like this is a testament to their mutual respect for each other and BA’s love for calling Brewers games. A third of the games called by BA is better than zero, especially since none of the alternatives are as good as BA.

Never warmed up to Lepay for baseball. Maybe due to overexposure?

I remember when BA first started with Milwaukee and some here questioned the move, hiring a primarily golf guy.

Good call Simba, remember Merle Harmon and his situation very well. Wasn't Loren Brown his replacement?

Brown was. And I couldn't stand him. Maybe he wasn't that bad, although I still thought he was, but I missed Merle and probably never would have warmed to Brown because of it.

i think he means that tv announcers are an ancillary part of what makes baseball the national pastime; regardless of how the beauty of the game is described it is still beautiful beyond description. whatever complaints are voiced about a near perfect game only sullies the graceful movements of those within the diamond.

I think I might be in the minority that unless the play-by-play is REALLY bad, I don't notice the announcers too much. I've gotten used to the Schroeder'isms throughout the years and I tend to tone a lot of those out. I'm usually doing other things during the broadcast like reading, or looking up nonsense on the internet, fixing something, etc.

I really like Levering and Grindle (spelling) on the radio and when I heard him on TV I thought he was fine. Not that he needs my endorsement. As others have said, to have BA at all at this point in his career is probably due to him liking the organization/fans and the Brewers reluctance to let him go.

Lost in the shuffle is that the brewers are going to hire a radio announcer to replace Levering. This is good news. I hope its a color guy. Grindle and Levering are fine but they both are play by play guys. I just didn't think it worked when they are together. you are grooming Levering to replace BA and now you can hire a guy to eventually replace Uecker.

I really prefer consistency and announcers that know the team I side and out. One replacement for the games BA misses would be ideal for me.

I believe that's what we'll get in Levering. The only reason I'm even mildly disappointed in this change in his radio/TV ratio is because I so enjoy listening to him (paired with either Lane or Bob) on the radio. But this is vastly preferable to him leaving for another market.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Agreed.

I don't feel like BA doing only 50 games total, that he will know the ins and outs, the daily grind of the team..

If anything, he will feel like the fill-in.
