Wisconsin Basketball Thread 2021-2022

Agree with those who called that a weird game. Super physical and 2 poor shooting teams should equate to one of those classic B1G grinders...instead both teams shot the lights out with each team making their fair share of shots they had no business making. Bad day all around for the refs, which sucks for everybody.

Again, this team just keeps winning. The last couple games have been very encouraging on the offensive front...as UW has actually been able to run some offense and get some open layups/good looks that weren't fading 15 footers by Davis(on). Defensively things have been sporadic. Bowman is downright terrible on D, which is too bad as he is an intriguing player on the other end.

The starting 5 have really stepped up to become a good unit on both ends of the floor. Unfortunately the bench has yet to contribute to the point of "comfortableness" when any of them are in the game (outside of Vogt, who is more of a 6th starter). They have each shown enough flashes where there is hope of some consistency down the road, though.

This has been a really fun year.

Lunardi has UW as a 2 seed right now

At this point - they should be. Do I think they are a top 8 team in the country? Not really, but they have the quality wins and one of their losses was without one of the top 5/10ish players in the country.

Is anyone concerned about this teams defense? Some days I watch and I just think they give up a few too many easy baskets, but admittedly, I know little about the x's and o's of basketball.

The starting 5+Vogt is very solid when they want to be...but they have been playing so many minutes that it is impossible to stay as intense on D the whole game and remain as aggressive on offense as they should be. I think Gard should be able to cycle in Neath and hopefully Jordan Davis enough to spell the 3 starting perimeter defenders-I'm not sure there is a lot of hope for Bowman this year to become a good enough defender to stay in the rotation against teams with good perimeter players. He might get time in the right matchup or blow-outs though. There is still hope that Carlson can get healthy and get up to speed enough to spell Wahl rather than having Gilmore play that role--who has been fine, but is rather limited.

Rankings are all relative. Might be an overall down year in CBB, so a 2-seed this year might be the equivalent of a 4-seed in other years.

Heck, a 1-seed might be the equivalent of a 4-seed. There is just a big jumble of teams in the top 20 or so that are all fairly equal resume-wise. Moreso than any other year that I can remember.

Auburn and Arizona are going to be the next teams to try and take the mantle of #1 and separate themselves from the pack but I'd bet on both losing a couple of games in the next couple of weeks.

Parrish and Norlander both said on their pod yesterday they'd have the Badgers as a one seed right now.

The profile is there. The next six will provide a clearer picture. I'll say 4-2 (losses at MSU and at Illinois), but 3-3 wouldn't surprise. If they win the games they should against PSU, Nebraska, and Minnesota and get 2 of 3 against MSU and Illinois, it'll be tough for me to see them dropping below a 2 seed.

Big game vs MSU tonight. I expect a close one.

Wahl out tonight. Not ideal

I’ve never been to the Kohl Center but watching on tv the crowd seems so quiet, especially compared to other teams home courts. Is it different in person? I always thought they needed to bring the students closer and along the benches.

I’ve been to two games, which to be fair I think were just after finals in December, but the crowd seemed very…meh. Rarely got into it and if they did it was for a very very short time.

Though I really haven’t gone to other arenas enough to really gauge how different it is compared to the typical experience.

Still….you’d think a match up like this at home would get people excited. Then again, I just don’t think Wisconsin basketball has that dedicated of a basketball crowd.

Ya think being down in the teens has something to do with it?

One game I went to was a thrilling win of NC State and the other was a drubbing of Marquette. Both crowds still felt weak overall.

So…no.

I was at the Kohl Center when they were beating some 4th tier school from rural Texas by 40, and the crowd was super raucous and rowdy. Was there for a Northwestern game and crowd was pretty rowdy.

I wonder if some of this is TV. The Kohl doesn't translate well energy wise. Might be camera/mic placement or something, but it feels quieter to me than a lot of arenas through the small screen. Rutgers, for example, just feels fired up all the time, even though I doubt it's that much more intense than the Kohl in reality.

I mean they only have student seating behind one basket. Which, maybe that is normal for many/most teams…but certainly makes a difference when you compare it to a team that makes that area on both ends for students.

Wahl is so much better this year. Unrecognizable. He can drive, score down low, is physical, etc. Why the Badgers are considerably better than first thought starts with him.

Wahl continues to show his value while absent in home blowout loss.
