2021-10-12 (NLDS Game #4): Brewers (Lauer) at Braves (Morton) [Brewers lose, 5-4 -- Freeman’s 8th inning HR off Hader breaks tie, and hearts]

Seeing a rumor that Soler is out with COVID...that would be an interesting development...

According to Karl Ravech:

Christian Pache will now hit leadoff and play RF for the Braves. Jorge Soler was in the original lineup.

No way in hell we'd put him at leadoff. I'm guessing Dansby moves up and they start Rosario in LF and slide Joc to RF.

FYI, according to bbref Escobar basically hasn't played OF since 2015. Had like 4 games total in 16-17. None since.

I'd be curious on the advance stats on Avi's D. But I really do think he's ben solid/good, just had a couple bad errors at bad times that skews perception. But like I said, didn't look anything up. Just gut.

I thought it was odd enough that Soler was a leadoff hitter. I think he has a .316 OBP.

User in-game thread post in 1st inning of 3rd game of the 2022 season: "This team stinks"

No way JBJ should touch this lineup even if Cain isn't out there. Maybe a late game replacement but they need escobar peterson or taylor out there a lot more.

Yeah, I think the easiest answer is Taylor in center. At least at first glance.

The complicating factor is Atlanta's lefty-heavy pen. Taylor is our best RH bench option, so does it make sense to start Jace w/ Avi in center until the fifth or sixth?

The really out of the box option: Start JBJ and PH Peterson when his spot comes up. Then, Taylor enters game in center.

Burns two bench options but gives you premium defense for a couple of innings and keeps the platoon advantage for Taylor later in the game, especially since Morton probably doesn't go more than two times through...

Yep, appears Ravech was incorrect. New Braves lineup posted in the second post of this game thread.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Long way to go in Chicago, but it's looking like teams trying to force Game 5 will be 0-2.

Hope the Brewers can be the team to do it. Gotta figure something's going five this year. Too many tight games for it not to happen.

And, yeah, I know it's all random and independent from anything else, but, you know. Looking for hope in strange places. Actually pulling out my Winnipeg Jets gear on account of they left Atlanta to play again in their true home...

Yeah Pache leading off and playing RF made absolutely no sense. Pache is a plus defender, better in CF than anyone besides Heredia...no way would he be in RF with anyone besides Heredia in CF. And if he's not good enough to beat out the veteran retreads for a playoff spot, no way is he getting thrown in leadoff due to a covid case.

You're going to feel silly when JBJ has to bat in the first inning!!! Pinch-hit for him before he plays the field! Let's go!

As much as the lineup takes a hit, their OF defense got immensely better. Joc is ok in RF, Duvall is plus in LF, is solid in CF. That's so much better than the OF defense they've had the first few games. Duvall in CF is pretty bad, Soler is just bad, and Rosario is bad. So they went from bad all around to solid, plus, and solid.

Hahaha. Hope you're right! Let's just hope Lauer doesn't come up with the bases loaded, 2 outs, and 3 already in. Wouldn't want another pinch-hit-gate around here.

Though, on second thought, I'd definitely take the 3 runs...

Nice to have you here, Bravos....interesting having an insider look at the similar lineup situation on your side.

Glad to be here. You all are good people. Honestly, I bowed out yesterday after the Joc HR because I know how annoying it can be to having a rival fan posting when things aren't breaking your way.

Looking forward to tonight, though! Don't feel good about Charlie starting and I'm weary of Heredia getting 3+ ABs in a playoff game, but here we are.

Speaking for myself, it's real easy to get into abstracting other teams and their fanbases. It's nice to be reminded that there's plenty of folks who deserve to be happy if it goes the Braves way.

I shouldn't have to be reminded of that, of course, but sports does funny things to your brain. Good luck.

You and thousands of Braves fans alike. I think they were just trying to replicate what we lost in Acuna. Or the offense just clicked at the right time regardless of who was leading off. Though I will say he's had a .358 OBP since joining Atlanta. He seems like a classic "plays as well or as bad as his team's overall situation" kinda guy. He'll be in Philly next year.

This sounds like a very Counsell thing to do but I am guessing he just starts JBJ straight out....

I honestly think starting JBJ is the right call if Cain can't go or generally shouldn't go. His defense is so valuable, especially in Atlanta being a bigger outfield than Miller Park. If it was home I would side with starting Taylor. Also, against a RH pitcher that doesn't throw a changeup I think JBJ has a better chance than usual to do something sorta kinda useful at the plate...

Ha, couldn't be more true. My best friend is a Philly fan and I honestly think he's the only one I would like. They are, of course, the worst fans in sports.

Most Atlanta fans are either social fans or just kinda clueless, but a lot are decent enough people.

Yah...I don't think I can cheer the Braves on if they move on when their postseason games seem to have the energy of a mostly empty mid-day April game.

Can you imagine if we would have gotten a Rays/Braves in the World Series. We would have needed to bring back the 2020 fake fan noise.

One of the biggest issues is that the Braves fan base is massive...but most of the die-hards I know aren't in the Atlanta area. Thanks to TBS in the 90s and early 2000s, we have one of the most spread out fanbases, maybe in sports.
