2021-10-08 (NLDS Game #1): Braves (Morton) at Brewers (Burnes) [Brewers win, 2-1 -- Rowdy provides a run saving defensive play early and hits a 2-run HR late; Burnes pitches 6 scoreless innings]

I think one of the best parts about baseball are the intricacies of different ballparks. The Green Monster, the Ivy Wall at Wrigley, the weird bump at Minute Maid. Why MLB has had the desire to "keep things consistent" at Miller Park (now AmFam) for the playoffs is kind of weird to me.

I think the issue with consistency at Miller Park in 2011 was related to the shadows for afternoon games. The roof was closed for the first two games so they kept it closed for game 5 which was a mid afternoon start.

The roof was open for Game 1 of the NLCS two days later.

It’s generally cloudy today so the roof could be open unless and until a threat of rain develops.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Ah, ok. Good to know!

Both lineups now posted on the first page (second post).

I like having Urias available as a pinch hitter later in the game today, especially with Atlanta’s LH relievers.

Better to have him(the better hitter) bat 4 times and Escobar PH and only bat once with those 2 options...

Gross, I knew this was going to happen. Our 3rd best hitter on the bench because ?

Just because he isn't in the Game 1 lineup doesn't mean that Urias isn't going to play a major role in this series. In what will likely be a low-scoring game. defense is likely to be at a premium, and the alignment of Escobar at 3B and Tellez at 1B is likely a little more sound than Urias at 3B and Escobar at 1B.

Is the roof going to be open/closed depending on weather? I know its supposed to rain today, but what about tomorrow with sunny/70s? I recall 2011 going to game 5 of the NLDS being baffled by the roof being closed on an 80+ degree day.

https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2011/10/07/its-a-beautiful-day-in-milwaukee-so-naturally-the-roof-at-miller-park-is-closed/

Don't even recall what they did in 2018.

I was at NLDS Game 1 in 2018, and the roof was closed that day for a mid afternoon start. It was sunny that day and I don’t think it was too cold, but probably cooler than today.

Or, Escobar on the bench...put the superior bat/glove/everything in Urias at 3b?

They didn't trade for Escobar for him to come off the bench. I totally get the argument that Urias has been better of late, though. I love him on this team, and he's got a very bright future as a Brewer.

I was cool as a cucumber yesterday, thinking to myself that I’m handling this pretty well, my nerves are getting steely, blah blah blah.

I am fired up today. Just watching Astros-White Sox has me pumped.

You and me both, man! My feelings exactly.

Personally, I'm relieved that Rowdy is at 1st today. I feel much more comfortable with his defense there.

Counsell has his left handed hitters batting 1,3,5,7 so there won’t be consecutive lefties if the Braves dip into their deep pool of lefty relievers.

Urias will be available to enter if and when those lefty relievers enter and will almost certainly be starting tomorrow against Fried.

I wouldn’t be concerned about him missing a couple of possible ABs early in Game 1.

Given how much the Brewers play match ups, he might not even miss a couple. Even with Burnes on the mound I think there will be quick hooks with pitching given Houser and Lauer are back in the pen. If he is laboring through the first few innings and his spot comes up with runners in scoring position I think Counsell will be aggressive.
