DSL-Brewers2 Defeats DSL-Brewers1 in Shortened Season Finale 6-4

The DSL-Brewers2 squad scored four runs before recording an out, racing to a 5-0 lead. The DSL-Brewers1 team cut the lead to 5-4 by the 4th inning, but ran out of time (or more likely ran out of decent weather). The game abruptly ended with the DSL-Brewers1 squad due to bat in the bottom of the 6th.

The DSL-Brewers1 squad finished the season with a 31-28 record and the DSL-Brewers2 team ended with a 29-30 record.

18-year old Edgardo Ordonez (Venezuela) – 2-3, 2 RBI, 1 SB – the catcher led all DSL-Brewer position players with an .868 OPS in his first professional season

19-year old Jamal Zalm (Curacao) – 2-3, 2B – the 2nd baseman posted a solid .764 OPS for the year

19-year old Isaac Curbata (Venezuela) – 2-3, 1 RBI

18-year old Miguel Briceno (Venezuela) – 2-3, 2B

17-year old Ney Serrano (DR) – 1-2, HR, walk, HBP, 1 RBI, 2 SB – the shortstop boosted his season OPS to .707

18-year old Eduarh Colina (Venezuela) – 1-2, walk – the right fielder recorded a .741 OPS for the year

Ferreira – 1-2, 1 SB

A Perez – 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 SB

17-year old Jackson Chourio (Venezuela) – 1-4, 1 RBI – the prized center fielder finished strong with a season OPS of .833 (2nd amongst Brewer-DSL players)

19-year old Rafael Camacho (Venezuela) had a rare difficult start – 4.0 innings, 4 ER, 5 Ks, but still a great season: 2.20 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 8.4 K/9 in 45.0 innings

18-year old Henrison Mota (DR) picked up the win – 1.0 inning, zero runs, 0 Ks – a solid year: 3.20 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 12.1 K/9 in 25.1 innings

19-year old Anthony Perez (DR) took the loss – 1.0 innings, 5 ER, 3 Ks

19-year old Hamlet Vasquez (DR) and 18-year old Dencer Geraldo (DR) both threw well in relief – 4.0 innings, zero runs, 8 Ks

19-year old Stanley Encarnacion (DR) gave up a late homer – 1.0 inning, 1 ER, 0 Ks – he threw well on the season: 3.89 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 37.0 innings

Thanks for the DSL wrap, damuelle.

Really intriguing results from the Nicaraguan mound duo of Cruz & Vallecillo, hopefully they'll make it over to Arizona for a better look next summer.

Can't help but think of the Astros, who have gotten pretty good seasons from Luis Garcia (155 IP | 130 ERA+), Framber Valdez (134 IP | 137 ERA+), Jose Urquidy (101 IP | 121 ERA+) and Cristian Javier (101 IP | 121 ERA+) this year. None of them were big bonus guys & Urquidy was the only one to ever crack a Top 100 (#82 pre-2020 @ BPro), so a pretty big testament to Houston's pitcher identification & development program.

Stearns & company clearly know a thing or two about pitcher identification & development too, so it should be interesting to see if they can work some Houston-esque magic on the international side in the coming years.
