Devin Williams to IL with hand injury

I’m not going to pile on the guy.

I will.

He and his teammates are finishing up an incredible regular season. Getting through injuries, COVID protocols, the whole grind to be in this position.

They have WS potential, despite the tepid September performance. He has to know he's a huge reason for that. And to do something that absolutely ******* moronic because he can't hold his liquor? It almost defies belief.

I get all that and think your position is a fair one to have of an adult. But if you're getting so drunk that you throw your most prized possession into a wall...probably a bigger issue going on.

And maybe he does. And if he does he’ll need to get help for that. His life is more important than the game. So IF he does have issues maybe this is what was needed to get him help. Timing sucks..

Or, you drink so rarely that you behave in an uncharacteristic manner. I'm pretty pissed off at the guy, but you don't need to suggest he's an alcoholic.

What a buffoon. He deserves to be booed if we get the chance.

So empathize, but boo? Tough love?

Basically. I tend to lean more toward the latter with someone Devin's age, but just saying I see where jason is coming from.

Classic "actions have consequences" situation. He not only let himself down but he let his teammates down as well. I'm sure he is well aware of that and hopefully uses this life lesson to make better choices in the future.

Yes, he's not perfect and none of us are. Drunkenly punching a wall is never a very bright move for anyone, but Devin punching a wall goes a bit above and beyond Mr. Joe Average punching a wall. Mr. Joe Average doesn't literally depend on that hand for his entire livelihood.

Who the heck is Colin rea?? Is he good?

Some people can't hold their liquor. Unbelievable.

He's been really good for Nashville. Though he's a 31 year old AAAA player.

Need some new life injected into the bullpen. Had to be between Rea, Barker, or the ballsy choice, Small. With any luck, they made the right pick.

What an idiot, frustrated about what exactly? You won the division hours earlier. Stearns looks so mad in that video. Also not telling the team till you couldn't throw yesterday? What a joke

That's what I'd like to know and seems like a layup follow up question but I guess that's asking too much of the local media. For the most part I think the Milwaukee media is a bonus to the brewers in that they don't cause unnecessary controversies, but on the other hand when there is a legitimate story to dig into they drop the ball a lot.

Wouldn't surprise me if that's the last time he pitches for the Brewers. While he may have let his teammates down, I am sure he was enraged the owner and front office who are ultimately the ones with control over his career.

He's having the most miserable day of his life today and we're all upset about it, but he obviously regrets it and we'll eventually move on. Although it certainly will be easier if the Brewers avoid blowing late-inning leads in the postseason...

He's not even the first pitcher this year to bust his pitching hand punching something. One wishes that he did it after a bad outing rather than after the celebration though.

Dang that sucks. Watching the video, it's obvious he feels bad and is embarrassed. I also hope whatever he was up against to make him punch the wall gets addressed. Is there a story? I'm sure but even if the media asks the question, do you really think he's going to give a fully disclosed answer? Doubtful. Maaaayybeee/probably it was mostly alcohol related. I think it's appropriate to be cautious forming too much of an opinion though. For all we know, punching a wall WAS showing restraint on his part for whatever was going on.

In any case, he's missing out on a dream opportunity. Tough lesson.

I don't think any of this matters. Sure he isn't the first one to do this and I'm sure he feels terrible about it but it is now the second consecutive post-season (out of 2 for him) when he won't be available and this time its unfortunately his fault. A reliever with his stuff is a lot less valuable if he isn't throwing the big innings for you.

I mentioned the same thing on the first page where I wouldn't be surprised if his injury history leads to the Brewers quietly exploring trades for him this offseason. Hader seems like the obvious candidate given his increasing price tag but Josh is more reliable and the Brewers could probably get a similar haul for Devin.
