6/15/06 White House (Dude TBA) @ Brewerfan.net (BrewerFever)

Jimbo

The boys from Brewerfan.net take on first place White House. Last Thursday, White House defeated Bay Street Pub for sole possession of first place.

Game time 9 pm.

Any suggestions for line-ups?

Just a thought.. we could keep the same or similar lineup for this game -- our 4th. Then for the next three we could do a S1-P1-S2-P2 type lineup, and then reverse that lineup for the last three games.. That assumes we actually get to make up those rainouts..

Pretty sure -- according to this, it is: forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=3.topic

I think the paper one also said 9, but I can't be positive.

I didn't think it'd be the case.. but so far I've liked the two night games a lot better than the 7pm one.. and not just because of the results. Quite a bit harder to see right around sunset...

nullbyte's thought goes along the same lines as what Jamie was thinking.

However, we say we want everyone to get an equal number of swings, yet we say we want to give ourselves the best chance to win. I see this as somewhat of a paradox.

I have one idea of a compromise. Create two pools of players, Pool A has the best 8-10 hitters and hit first, Pool B the rest. Every week, guys rotate the batting order within their own pool. Yeah, the Pool A guys get more PAs, but if you do the math, a Pool A guy will get on avergae just 3 more PA than a Pool B guy over the final six games.

We have the late game, but how about a ten minute pow-wow after the game tonight to hash these ideas and take a vote.

Next week is the Club Carnival re-match and I would like us to field our best team possible.

Also, Jamie had brought up the subject of mixing up the defense a bit. Three guys have defensed all 21 innings.

Who is our #2 pitcher tonight? Robin19?

One option, if its possible, the best players start, with no DHs. Then the subs go in later and the replaced players (the better ones) continue playing as a DH. It would get us through the lineup faster in the early innings and potentially keep us hitting later in the game.

Overall, we all want to win, but most of us want to play too. I know I suck at times, and others may feel the same way, its a matter of acknowledging your inabilities and balancing the desire to win with everybody playing.

No. I had suggested that S1-P1-S2-P2 and so on is bad. Once we hit the bottom third of the order in that lineup, we're in trouble. I think it should be mixed up more than that. Anyone else?? (opinions please)

All players will get equal time. We all paid the same, we all want to play, we all should get equal time. I don't even think that you can go once through the order and then add guys.

According to my sheet, our game is at 9. Where's the possible mix up?

If there are guys that have indeed played all 21 innings, or each inning of each game they attended, they will sit the second half of tonight's game if there are enough subs to go in for them ok?

This should include the pitcher. We need to get another 2 guys farmiliar with the arc because Fever is leaving soon.

We can have one guys start at pitcher and then have Fever come in from the bench, or vice versa. Since Josh does not have much time left, I'd say that he should probably play the whole game, cool?

ICN won't make tonight's game. (vacation)

Just to be clear, my idea wasn't so much the alternation, but to flip the lineup bottom-to-top for the last few games to attempt to meet the equal playing time goal -- no more than that.

As far as defense, I might be of use (in addition to OF) at 1B, 2B.. or even SS if we're desperate or valpo is too drunk or some other calamity http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Which is why this isn't possible. We can either have no (or one) DH and have the people subbed out not be able to play, or have every bench player be a DH.

This is the powerhouse, correct? Then maybe I or another back up pitcher should just start the game. We could also mix up our D this game just to give guys chances at other spots. It depends on how much we think we can win this game.

I agree... I want our team to win as much as the next guy, but this is the social league, and I don't think playing to win should mean as much as having fun.

It's at 9, I was reading the wrong column of dates.

I think we should switch Razzor's suggestion and his first 3 innings be the last three innnings. We don't always play 7 innings in one hour.

I'm not going to go into a recap of the game, as i'd prefer to pretend it never happened, but I tip my cap to the gentlemen of the White House. It was a laugher after the first inning, and they handled themselves most excellently. I thought the umpiring was fair, and it was still nice to get out and get some exercise, even if I slid face first into 1st base http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I thought a Spivey injury was coming after seeing that. That is Ned Yost type-hustle.

Even though we got clobbered, I had a really fun time. As I said before, I love playing against good teams and getting tested out there. I really love the challenge.

Can't wait for next week.
