The three best

Bulldogboy
Play the three best outfielders and stop messing around. If that is the case Yelich comes off the bench imo. Maybe next year he can find himself or whatever he needs to do but I play Taylor Cain and Garcia and try to find a spark from here on out with those three. Factor in the brutal defense and the fact he is no longer a threat at the plate Yelich is killing them and does not deserve to be playing over Taylor. Taylor has hit half as many home runs as Yelich in two games. What exactly is Yelich bringing to the table that Taylor doesn't except a few trophy's on the mantle. No time for history lessons of days gone by. Yelich is not getting it done and should be subject to the same standard of performance as anyone else. It is not the fault of the other 25 guys that you paid him the money. Don't throw the season away hoping against hope the guy remembers how to hit. It has been two full years!! I've seen enough if they want to get to the world series it should be said they did it despite a bad season from Yelich not that they didn't make it because they were waiting for him to come around. This is the same organization that fired the manager with 12 games left in order to make the playoffs. Benching a player is way less dramatic. The lowest ops in the lineup today was Yelich. The worst defender in the lineup today minus Urias was Yelich. It is not enough that he makes the most money. Win at all cost. Even if that cost is his ego.

At least for the next couple of days I think Taylor and Garcia have to start over Yelich. It’s hard to argue that that doesn’t give them a better chance to produce some runs.

Agreed.

It will be pretty deflating if Taylor is on the bench tomorrow night after two dingers today.

Won't shock me in the least, as that has happened countless times in CC's tenure.

This is a tough one. I think in the best interest of this team's playoff success, Yelich needs to get going. That isn't going to happen if he's sitting in favor of Tyrone Taylor. Yelich needs to be a threat for this team to be a World Series contender. The threat of his bat needs to be on the forefront of the opposition's mind. I think he'll continue to play regularly, and the team will hope beyond hope that he finds a way to be productive with the bat. Is that the best decision? I'm not sure. But I think that's what's going to happen.

Putting him down in the order is the obvious next step, right? I mean, we are at the emperor has no clothes level now. If he does play regularly because of years 2018 and 2019, why add to his pressure and put him as a main cog expected to produce at 2 or 3. Drop him to 6 or 7 for now. If he gets going put him back.

Vs RHP:

Taylor .730

Yelich .759

For some reason splits are still always ignored. Taylor absolutely should start vs LHP, but Yelich is still better vs RHP if we're looking at the numbers.

Looking at splits is fine. But, with 9 games left in the season and a couple of wins desperately needed, season long splits might not be the best thing to go on. Yelich hasn’t been hitting anyone for the last few weeks, while Taylor hit 2 HRs today against one of the best RHP in the league.

It pains me to turn on Yelich because of what he has done for the team and the community in his time here. I really hope he can find his stroke again, though that probably won’t be this season. It’s no time for sentiment. You have to play the players who you think give you the best chance to score runs and win.

This all day long. It really is about the here and now. Maybe if they had gotten the job done and you could take the foot off the gas but they need to win games right now. They can not under any circumstances go into St. Louis still needing to win games in order to clinch. They have to get this over with. If Manny Pina has a higher ops than you what is there to even discuss?? Get him out of there and if you find a spot to plug him in to help come playoffs off the bench fine. The combo of terrible offense and horrible defense is just not playable right now imo.

Game one against Max Fried what are the chances Yelich sits and watches Taylor. I say zero and that's a problem.

Poor Yelich has been struggling for almost 2 seasons. Right now CC should be putting his most productive players out there no matter how big their contract is. I hope I'm wrong but I fear Yelich may never return to his MVP form again. :(

So what I hear you saying is that there is very little chance that playoff success is going to happen in 2021. This is so “Craig Counsell”. After 2 seasons of failure you still have faith in a player that has shown little success. Remember a previous playoff game where Counsell brought in Jeffress in the 8th when he was going through a terrible stretch and then Hader in the 9th after he had given up several game winning home runs? How did that eventually work out. Counsell sticks with his horses through thick or thin despite recent history. That is a commendable virtue, however, not so much from a baseball manager. Statistically speaking, Yelich will continue to slump (or continue to be who he currently is) and will continue to bat in the same spot that Counsell has placed him all year. I don’t think at this point the opposition really cares what Yelich did in 2018 and 2019. He is what he is in 2021 and any intellegent manager with deal with him in that way. If you don’t considered history you are doomed to repeat it. Wishful thing isn’t going to get it done.

Craig Counsell has proven over the years to be one of the smartest, most astute managers in the game, and the Brewers have had a run of success that is unprecedented in this team's history. There are arguments that you can logically make here, but "Craig Counsell is dumb" ain't one of them.

Yes, odds are Yelich isn't going to suddenly become the 2018 version. But he isn't having a JBJ season, either. I predict he'll continue to see regular time out there, although hopefully if Taylor is heating up, he can work his way into a timeshare with both Garcia and Yelich.

After yesterday’s two home run performance Taylor’s season splits versus RHP is up to a .784 OPS, but using Taylor’s splits for this season is somewhat problematic for that reason since his sample is pretty small it’s still subject to large fluctuations.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I guess it depends what trait the manager is looking for in the lineup. Taylor is about league average at getting on base (.322 vs. lg. OBO .317), but Taylor has a good slugging percentage.

Yelich gets on base more often (.354 OBP) but this year has shown next to zero power.

Isn’t the goal not to make an out? If so then Yelich should play. If the goal is to drive the ball with runners on base then Taylor should play.

C'mon man...

Yelich has had 2 season's to "get going", and has yet to do so. The guy has 8 homers this season, let that sink in...

He won't "get going" if he is sitting, and he hasn't "got going" with all the playing time in the world. Dude is a shell of his former self, and if he hasn't flipped the switch yet after two seasons, now is not the time to think he will.

His bat is no longer a threat, at least not this year. The competition no longer see him as 2018-2019 Yelich, he is just a guy, and has done nothing the past two seasons to prove otherwise.

Sometimes CC's tunnel vision is ridiculous.

Yelich needs to get it going. I'm not saying I necessarily agree with continuing to play him every day and bat him 3rd. I think I'd mix it up, and give him more days off. But I don't think it's going to happen. That's not Counsell's MO. And despite his tunnel vision, the guy has certainly earned the benefit of the doubt in my mind.

Yeah I would be platooning Yeli and batting him around 6th. Dodgers were doing the same to Bellinger before he got hurt.
I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

I think the key thing with Yelich right now is he needs to be hitting lower in the order, particularly with Adames and Garcia back. Slotting him down around 5th or 6th after Wong, Adames, Escobar, Garcia, and maybe even Narvaez/Urias makes sense to me. He's just not slugging enough to justify hitting in the heart of the order with these other guys healthy.

Hard to envision the Brewers winning the World Series with Yelich on the bench or hitting low in the lineup. I think Brewers need to use the last 9 regular season games to get him going and his confidence up. Especially with Division and playoff seeding essentially decided.

I never said he was dumb. That came out of your mouth, not mine. In fact he is an intelligent manager. He saw the success that KC had when they went to the World Series x2 and expanded upon it with the way he used Hader, Knebel, Jeffress and adding Woodruff, Burns and Houser to the bullpen in the playoffs -Brilliant . But as time went on he moved away from that successful plan….probably had to, to strengthen the starting rotation and the desires of Burnes, Woodruff, and Hader to be used in more traditional roles for their big payday. These windows are short, especially when the players are young and the payroll cheap. What bothers me about Counsell is that he sticks players in the same role when it is obvious to almost everyone that changes are required. I really believe this goes back to the time near the end of his career when his manager stuck with him when he went through a 0-59 stretch. He needs to be more of a manager/management than a friend.

That was in response to your comment”…..the threat of his bat needs to be at the forefront of the opposition’s mind.” What I was attempting to say is that the oppositions’s manager doesn’t look at the 2021 Yelich as the 2018-2019 version, and his “fear of Yelich” will not be the same as the past and most intelligent opposition managers will treat him that way.To hope that he will return to that MVP type player this year has a miniscule chance of happening in the next 5-6 weeks and hoping that he will is foolish.
