2021-09-22: Cardinals (Mikolas) at Brewers (Anderson) [Brewers lose, 10-2]

Eye Black
I'm just here for the "this is a must win game" posts.

I'll be on the edge of my seat tonight with how much is at stake...

Scenario 1: Brewers win

Odds of winning division before game: >99.9%

Odds of winning division after game: >99.9%

Scenario 2: Brewers lose

Odds of winning division before game: >99.9%

Odds of winning division after game: >99.9%

So it’s not 100%

Not until we clinch. The following 3 scenarios remain in play (including a win in the tiebreaker by the Cards):

Cards 11-2; Brewers 0-12

Cards 12-1; Brewers 1-11

Cards 13-0; Brewers 2-10

I see Anderson as our 6th starter. His stuff is so average that I never really feel comfortable with him on the mound

I see him as #7, behind Lauer, Houser, and Ashby.

It's hard to rank a guy who can't make it past the 3rd inning without getting injured... [/sarcasm]

Counsell’s comments about Anderson having a short start tonight make me wonder what the plan is. If Strickland is still around I could see him coming in for two innings before going to Ashby.

I just hope Anderson doesn’t foil the whole plan by giving up a 3 run HR to Arenado in the first inning.

So he'll probably go through their whole batting order just once, i.e., 1 inning? :laughing Sorry, I have already exhausted my melt-down quota.

Cards 12-1; Brewers 1-11

Cards 13-0; Brewers 2-10

Because of the 5 head to head games, I look at it this way.

1. If the Brewers can just win one against the Cardinals, the Cards would have to go 7-0 against the Cubs while the Brewers go 0-6 against the Mets and Dodgers and then win a game 163. A second win against the Cardinals obviously ends it.

2. If the Cards win all 5 against the Brewers, the Brewers would have to go at least 3-3 against the Mets and Dodgers to clinch without help, and could afford one more loss for each game the Cards lose to the Cubs.

The extremely remote possibility of number 1 playing out is why I have been so fixated on the Brewers winning just one game in the current series. If nothing else it gets the clinching out of the way sooner and allows the Brewers to focus exclusively on setting themselves up for the playoffs.

The second scenario, while still unlikely, is nowhere near as far fetched and could push the clinching out until the final weekend, which would be unfortunate for a number of reasons.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Anderson is starting because we're locked in to win the Division and he can atleast eat a few innings while giving the other starters an extra day of rest. Not that the Brewers are punting these games, but if the division lead was only a game or two I don't think Anderson would be taking the mound

I can't see him making the post-season roster.

For the first time…this is probably accurate

I'd rather see Suter, Ashby, or a bullpen game than see Anderson no matter the situation ... Anderson is rotting away and losing games for us ... the momentum of this team is zilch right now -- Anderson is killing us. The crowd is dead tonight ... they know there is no hope with Anderson pitching.

*checks notes*

Brewers are 10-11 in Anderson starts this year.

Hard to complain about that from a #5 or #6 starter.

I don't need stats going back several months. It is obvious the last couple months that Anderson has NOTHING!!!!!

(with all due respect to your diligent statistics retrieval)
