Mikolas has been roughed up a bit in 4 of his last 5 starts (since 8/26 he’s allowed 15 earned runs over his last 23.0 IP), but the same could be said for 3 of Brett Anderson’s last 4 starts (has allowed 12 earned runs in last 14.2 IP).

Below are some key contributors against today’s opposing starting pitchers. Somewhat surprisingly the Brewers hitters don’t have many combined plate appearances against Mikolas.

Brewers vs. Mikolas

Cain: 4-for-14, 1 double, 1 home run, 2 strikeouts

Yelich: 3-for-17, 1 home run, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts

Piña: 4-for-8, 1 home run, 1 strikeout

Cardinals vs. Anderson

Goldschmidt: 10-for-21, 1 double, 2 home runs, 4 walks, 1 strikeout

Arenado: 7-for-18, 2 home runs, 1 walk, 1 strikeout

Bader: 2-for-3, 1 triple

Edman: 3-for-7

I'm just here for the "this is a must win game" posts.

I'm going. Must win. Brewers owe me. They are 1-4 with me in the stands at AmFam, with a total of 5 runs scored. I was at least hoping for Ashby, and I get Anderson.

You've got me beat.

If the only Brewers games I had seen this year were the ones we attended on our 10 Pack (once it started in May) I would figure the Brewers would be lucky to win 70 games. They are 2-4 and in the losses they have not scored much. One of the wins was the Braves game that they led 8-0 in the 7th inning, cave up 7 runs in the 7th and held on. The other win was against the Pirates and also featured very little hitting.

We are also supposed to go Saturday; hopefully we won't be seeing an attempt to break a 6 game losing streak.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

If they lose tonight you aren't allowed at any post-season games

I'm IN! :( :tongue

I appreciate the calmer heads around here who are explaining how these last 2 lame showings do not signify the beginning of the Greatest Collapse in Baseball History. But the great thing about these boards is that they allow bums like me to give full vent to our pessimism and frustration --however irrational-- without breaking things in our homes or alienating our immediate family. I'm just taking advantage of the opportunity. :)

For me, it's the trend that disturbs. The Cardinals are in a steady groove, playing fundamentally solid, intelligent, error free, baseball that's just good enough to win, especially in light of our failure to manifest the required brains, skill, and nerve at the plate. Yesterday, their 1st run came without a hit. Get 'em on (walk); get 'em over (steal & ground out); get 'em in (sac fly). Their second run started the same way, and they needed just one single, if I recall. That's bland but it wins games.

By contrast, the Brewers seem to be drifting into their earlier season routine, i.e., pitching gems going for naught because they can't make or steal runs... unless the opposition boots the ball around or someone hits the odd dinger --or GS in the bottom of the 9th. I'm tired of hearing the radio guys say that a batter had a good pitch to hit but "just missed it," probably because he was trying to hit a 5-run homer. Even assuming we hold on to the division, there's no momentum going into the playoffs. There's time to find the groove, of course, and I am absolutely painting the bleakest picture possible.

I hope and trust that the attitude in the clubhouse and the dugout is much better than mine, because mine is awful.

I was 3-0 in the 2018 playoffs, including the clincher in Colorado. I think I deserve a roster spot. I show up big in big moments.

Count me in the irrational group. Not expecting the GCBH©, but cannot believe how upset I have gotten watching the games the last two days. It's not about trends, or poor batting, it's only about losing to St. Louis.

I have guaranteed a Brewers victory tonight!

I picked up Mikolas and started him in a fantasy league!

He will now get shelled!

(I'm up 400 points in that league, so I can afford the negative points he will surely now get me!)

My lifetime playoff record is pretty good.

1981- 0-2 vs Yankees

1982- 5-1

2008- 1-0 (only game Brewers won)

2011- 2-0 (first games of NLDS and NLCS)

2018- 2-1 (Game 1 of NLDS and Games 1 and 7 of NLCS)

So, 10-4, including 10 of the last 12.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Counsell’s comments about Anderson having a short start tonight make me wonder what the plan is. If Strickland is still around I could see him coming in for two innings before going to Ashby.

I just hope Anderson doesn’t foil the whole plan by giving up a 3 run HR to Arenado in the first inning.

For those uncomfortable with Anderson pitching tonight (I am one of those uncomfortable ones), let us remember that Brandon Woodruff has a losing record thanks to a very spotty Brewers offense. If the Brewers don't score, does it really matter who is pitching?

I'll be on the edge of my seat tonight with how much is at stake...

Scenario 1: Brewers win

Odds of winning division before game: >99.9%

Odds of winning division after game: >99.9%

Scenario 2: Brewers lose

Odds of winning division before game: >99.9%

Odds of winning division after game: >99.9%
