It Is Time To Wrap Up This Division!

Ron Robinsons Beard

This division race should be done by now. I'm sick of having to follow the Reds (well not so much anymore because they suck). I'm sick of the Cardinals winning every game in September. I don't want to have to continue following them and, God forbid, have to cheer for the Cubs this weekend if the Brewers can't wrap this thing up this week. I'm sick of watching the Cardinal lineup full of Creatine bros like Tyler O'Neil, Harrison Bader and Tommy Edman, not to mention Arenado, who in true Cardinal fashion they got from the Rockies for basically nothing.

It is time for a couple of these Brewers starting pitchers to throw a couple gems and get this thing over with. It's time to hang 10 on these crappy Cardinal starters. I realize that, barring a historic collapse combined with a historic Cardinal run, the division race is done. It has been for awhile now. But enough is enough!

All that I ask at this point is one Brewers win in this series. A dominating pitching performance or an offensive outburst can do it.

Woodruff vs Woodford on paper should be a positive matchup for the Brewers, but they have to perform on the field.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

On paper, tonight’s game is extremely winnable but I could also see the offense put up another dud and lose something like 3-2. I would love to go on a rant about Yelich but what’s the point. It is what it is.

That's pretty much where I'm at, too, regarding Yelich. I wish there was something obvious to point to to explain his season, but it's tough without going down a conspiratorial rabbit hole.

But if he finally finds something and figures it out in October, all would be forgiven.

I still think we split this series. We have the pitching advantage every time we play the Cards. Our 5 is better than their 1. We'll get 2 of these next ones.

I'll be left with a tough decision in one of my keeper fantasy leagues...

Is Yelich even considered a keeper any longer at this point?

I'll be deciding between Yelich, Muncy, Giolito, Framber Valdez, Freddy Peralta, and Bassitt for my final 2 keepers.

I will be keeping Guerrero Jr, Bichette, Soto, Woodruff, Scherzer, and deGrom.

Need to pick 2 of the other list, as we keep 8 total.

I know people don't want to play the Cardinals in the NLCS because of history, but lets be honest. They aren't that good, they don't particularly look like a good postseason roster, and their road to get to the NLCS would be comically tough. Eventually their hot streak would end and I seriously doubt we would lose a 7 game postseason series to that team.

If we did lose to them I would be more mad at how pathetic the Brewers had to play to even allow that to happen. If you took team names away and just showed stats. I bet many would want to play the Cardinals. We arguably have a better offense, a better rotation, and a better bullpen.

Cool hot streak, but reality would likely set in before we ever got a chance to play them.

Logic tells me I should agree with you. That team is definitely not built for a postseason run. But my heart wants Cardinal fans to suffer by missing out on the playoffs completely.

Plus, you know, Devil Magic.

Lots of Brewer bats slumbering and lots of key guys out of the lineup. I get trying to insure their all healthy for October but guys need to pick it up and their facing two playoff teams down the stretch here and you want to play well against them to boost confidence.

Agreed 100%. I don't mind limiting innings on certain pitchers, but healthy bats need to play. Also maybe Cain doesn't have to dive into walls over the next 2 weeks, that ball can just drop and that's fine for now. Other than that, guys need to start playing like the games matter.

Telling a Gold Glove CF not to go all-out in the interest of health is probably not going to be real effective, either. Cain has been an effort guy his whole career. I doubt he's going to let up now.

It is getting a little back of my mind annoying even though I know this will be wrapped up any day. The Cardinals can't really win 22 in a row, right?

I have Yelich on my Fantasy team and I will definitely not be keeping him for next year. For most of this season I didn’t even start him, but held him in case he got hot.

We have 5 keepers and DeGrom, Scherzer, Trout, Jose Ramirez, Bogaerts, Machado, and Woodruff would all be ahead of Yelich.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

How many players are in your league? 2? How do you have all those guys?

Only 6. It makes for more fun teams and a much faster draft. I have won the league 5 years in a row, but losing Trout and deGrom and Yelich being useless torpedoed me this year.

The division is a foregone conclusion, but I'm definitely in the "I don't want to see St. Louis in the postseason" group. You can tell me all you want that they shouldn't match up with us, I still won't feel good about about it.

Of course I'd less rather see the Dodgers, so yeah. St Louis is almost certainly going to make it, all the other WC contenders are fading. I'm just hoping St Louis and L.A. end up in the Wild Card game so one of them is heading straight home.

With the Reds' remaining schedule (5 pirates, 4 nats, 2 Chisox), if the Brewers take 4 of the 6 remaining games against the Cards I think the Reds still squeak into that 2nd WC spot. The 7 games the Cards have left against the Cubbies are going to give them some problems, too with the way the Cubs are hitting.

In my perfect world, the combo of the Brewers and Cubs playing the Cards tough knocks them out of the playoffs altogether and the Reds squeak in, the Brewers winning that last series against the Dodgers prevents them from winning the NL West, the Braves hold off the Phillies for the NL East, and then the Reds find a way to have a good offensive game combined with a great Castillo start against the Dodgers to knock them out to leave the road to a Brewers' pennant without having to even consider facing the Dodgers or Cardinals.

Sure. And they'll still lose the division.
