My point is if the Cardinals win tomorrow, they can start thinking mildly about the division by winning Thursday .

Nah, they really can't. This series has been frustrating, but it would take a historically epic collapse the likes of which have never been seen in MLB history for what you are suggesting to even come close to happening.

And if that sort of collapse were to occur, then at that point I’ll tip my hat to the Cardinals and come to terms with the fact the Brewers have no one to blame but themselves. We’re a looooooong way from that possibility becoming reality, however, so I’ll continue to not obsess over it.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Did anyone think 9 days ago that the Brewers would go 2-5 and the Cardinals go 8-0

The chances are very remote, I agree, but this is the last 12 days of the season, and 8 of our 11 games are against the Cards and Dodgers. Each day that passes brings it tighter and tighter

This thread is going to be fun to look back on Thursday night after we win the next 2 games.

I agree fully, but it shouldn’t still be up in the air even to this minor degree

I mean, I agree. Heck, I started a whole thread on that idea this morning.

But my feelings are more borne of frustration that the division race isn't over yet, rather than any fear or panic that it won't be.

Don’t worry, be happy. Our majik number is only 3. Does anyone really believe the Cardinals are better than the Brewers?

I guess for me, it’s some disappointment. The team gave us the sense that we could relax the last three weeks of the season after the Cleveland series, that it was all but over and the clinching will likely happen during the Cubs series, and then we could all sit back and watch baseball for fun for a few weeks.

But 9 of the 21 days have passed and we have barely inched closer to the goal, and it won’t happen on day 10 either.

I agree it’s almost a certainty it will happen, but we all wanted and expected it to be done days ago

If we couldn’t score against freakin Lester and Woodford then how are we going to do anything against Mikolas and Wainwright? We’ll be lucky to get one of these next two.

Tomorrow is an extremely important game

For who? The Cardinals and Brewers are basically locked into their respective playoff spots now.

Cardinals take the last two from us

Then we lose 2 of 3 to the Mets and the Cards take 3 of 4 from the Cubs

Then the Cards sweep us in Stl

Then we go into the last weekend at LA and they host the Cubs, only up 3 games

It’s very unlikely , but it is not a crazy set of outcomes

I'd say that's pretty crazy

Mikolas has been an effective starting pitcher in the past. But he hasn't been good this year since coming off the IL.

And if they get one of the next two, that reduces the magic number to 1. That means they would have to win one of their final 10. Or the Cardinals would have to lose one of their final 10. I don't think its quite time to step onto the ledge.

I fully agree, got to win one of these last two, that’s why I feel tomorrow’s game is kind of important, cause a win against them logistically wraps it up. But losing both keeps the slog going

Right now they are. They are hitting their stride at the right time and our bats have gone cold. Again. Our pitching is still very good but if you can't score it is hard to win games, especially in the postseason. We might still win this division but if we continue to stink at the plate all of this regular season success will be for naught. :(

Right this second the Cards are the best team ever, winners of 10 straight and an absolute juggernaut!!! At least until they lose their next game, at which point will likely be the same time when the Brewers basically clinch the division and the Cards will still be double digit games behind in the standings and need to run through two buzzsaws out west just to reach the NLCS.

We might still win this division.....c'mon.

Perhaps my frustrations with our current offensive struggles caused me to type about winning the division but you have to admit we can't go into the post season hitting like this. I feel sorry for Woody. He's been pitching lights out for the most part but gets zero run support from his teammates. :(

Postseason action is at minimum two full calendar weeks away for the Brewers....who cares how they are hitting right this second? What they are doing offensively in the last week doesn't mean they will still all be slumping in early October, just like what they were doing for most of April-early May didn't mean they were going to be terrible all season long offensively. I'd be more concerned for the postseason offense if guys like Adames, Escobar, Garcia, Cain, etc. haven't returned to the lineup yet following some nagging injuries that have kept them out of action here and there the past few weeks - particularly Adames.

The silver lining to this recent offensive slump is key starters (Woodruff, Peralta, Burnes) for the postseason rotation do not look like they are burned out - to me that was always the biggest concern, because the Brewers got to the position they're in riding their pitching staff through the expected offensive ups and downs a regular season brings. They are still sitting pretty for the division title and #2 postseason seed in the NL.

I honestly could care less about what the bats are doing in mid September - it will mean nothing for the playoffs.
