For whatever reason the Cardinals have had Freddy’s number. They have a combined .918 OPS in 104 plate appearances against Peralta, including 6 home runs (two apiece for Arenado and Goldschmidt). Hopefully that trend reverses a bit tonight.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

It's time. Get this division stuff over with once and for all this week, and start prepping for the playoffs. Would like to curb stomp the Cardinals in the process, but no one behind them seems to want a Wild Card spot either. Hopefully Adames and Taylor are back this week. Has anyone seen any updates on Tellez? It would be nice to get this team back close to full strength before the end of the month.

When Tellez went on the IL they said it would be a minimum of two weeks. That would mean he won’t be back until at least next week if he’s able to come back at all.

I don't recall anything indicating that Tellez's injury was potentially season-ending. I would think/hope that the beginning of the playoffs would be a worst-case schedule.

Cincy has PIT and the Phillies have BAL. So they have that going for them.

The Padres are borderline doomed. They have to play the Giants for two series still, the Dodgers, and the Braves. While anything can happen in a small sample, that's hoping for a lot of success against good teams to outplay all the other teams in the WC race and catch the Cards.

The teams behind the Cards really need the Brewers to play spoiler. Outside of our two series they are playing the Cubs.

The Cubs have played pretty solid baseball of late. Brewers may have took 2 of 3, but all were closely contested. If the Cubs lay down and get stomped by the Cardinals, I'm going to be disappointed. I doubt that happens, though. Cubs always seem to get up for playing the Cardinals.

The words “season ending” were not used, but they said that Tellez would be “reassessed” after two weeks. That would mean a reassessment sometime next week. That doesn’t leave a lot of time for him to play in any more regular season games or to be activated for the NLDS.

Even if he isn’t ready for the NLDS he could be ready for a later round if the Brewers advance.

We’ll see what the reassessment shows.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

If the teams behind the Cardinals are looking to the Brewers to play spoiler, they are probably in for a disappointment. Given their desire to rest players with minor injuries and to manage workloads for their pitchers heading into the playoffs, I don’t see the Brewers winning more than 2 or 3 of their 7 games against the Cardinals. Once they win 2, hopefully this week, the Brewers are going to be more interested in looking out for themselves than playing spoiler. I’m sure the players that play will be going all out, but those players may not be the Brewers best for every situation.

The Cubs are not a pushover, but they aren’t likely to win more than a couple against a motivated Cards team either. So, I would expect the Cards to win something like 9 of their last 14. That would make it real tough for the teams behind them to catch up without almost winning out.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

You may say some key players getting breathers here and there, but it probably makes very little sense to roll out Sunday lineups for the last two weeks of the season. You want your key players to be fresh, while avoiding rust. I believe that the team would continue to play hard. The opportunity to win 100 games is pretty rare, and the players know that.

MLB is now listing Lester as the starter.

Guessing Woodford is a late scratch.

Or else the Cardinals decided to try to take advantage of the Brewers problems against left handed starters, and Lester’s past success against the Brewers, to try to get a jump in the series. If Garcia and Cain are still out the Brewers will be stuck with Bradley and Peterson in the OF.

What am I missing here? The stats linked in the original post show batters are 24 of 95, or .252. However, the stats at the bottom show a batting average of .307. The on-base pct of .449 seems impossible based on that. Add in walks and they are 33/104, for a .318 average. Freddy would have had to hit about 30 or 40 of them to get to .449, right? If I am making some colossally stupid error, I apologize in advance. But the numbers would suggest a OPS closer to .790 than .918.

Freddy's last start against STL was his first after coming off the IL. 2IP, 4 runs. Freddy's other start against the Cardinals this year, he went 7 IP with 1 hit, 1 BB, and 8 Ks. That makes me feel a lot better about tonight.

Given the fact that Woodford is not injured, and that he and Lester were merely flipped, that is probably the reason.
