A pretty dreary performance today. You know your offense isn’t doing well when you have more DPs than hits for much of the game.

Even if we assume that we aren’t going to see the first ever team to win a division race by winning its last 22 games in a row and/or the first team to blow one by losing its last 14, this next series is going to be a good playoff dress rehearsal for the Brewers. It’s an opportunity to show off their playoff credentials with their best pitchers lined up to face a team that is playing as well as anybody and is hungry to win more to lock up their playoff berth. The Brewers are going to have to show more offense than they have this week because they aren’t going to have the Cubs bullpen to help them salvage games.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I thought the Brewers were planning to go Peralta, Woodruff, Houser, Burnes against the Cardinals. Now I’m seeing Peralta, Woodruff, TBD, Houser.

Is there a problem with Burnes or are they just not willing to use him on only 4 days rest?

It’s been reported the TBD is Anderson. I think they’re trying to give Burnes the extra day of rest and do whatever possible to limit him from being gassed entering October.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

If they’re going with Anderson and Houser against Mikolas and Wainwright, the thought that the Brewers have the pitching advantage falls by the wayside. Whatever advantage the Brewers might have in the first two games is offset by the Cards advantage in the last two.

This really shouldn't be a surprise that Burnes won't be pitching in this next series. The plan all season has been to pitch on 5-days of rest and if possible an extra day or two, I don't see why the Brewers would even deviate from that plan as it has been working all year.

It’s still Craigtember friends! Where’s the confidence? 7 games against the Cards, and the Brewers need 2 wins. Or results in the other games these teams play. It’s not over til it’s over, but all of this worry can wait. Freddy’s up tomorrow. Go Crew!

Hopefully they get two good performances today and tomorrow and put this inevitable division thing to bed once and for all. Then it wouldn't really matter who starts games 3 and 4. Of course, it would matter to those teams who are chasing the Cardinals ... but the Padres and Phillies (not to mention the Reds) have no one to blame but themselves.
