The Pirates were going for the sweep against the Marlins today. They scored 2 runs in the top of the 9th inning to take a one run lead. They gave up a run in the bottom of the inning to tie it, and again took the lead in extra innings in the top of the 10th. The Marlins just hit a walk-off home run to win it.

Why is this interesting… The Pirates were trying for their first sweep of the season. They are the only MLB team this season without a sweep. They are now 0-for-15 in games that were sweep opportunities this season. That’s an MLB record for futility in a single season.

i'm shocked they've had 15 opportunities at a sweep.

I’m shocked people actually attended a Marlins/Pirates game in Miami. Have the hostages been released?

So we are going to have to beat the cardinals twice this week

If I were a Cardinal fan I'd be feeling pretty cocky about playing the Brewers 6(?) times before the end of the season.

It almost seems like we're trying to coast to the finish line. But there's a bit of a hill before we get there. Keep pedaling!

Yeah, I agree. I'm not nearly as confident in facing them in the NLCS than others. This is just historically what they do. Get super hot in September and ride it all the way to a World Series championship. As far as the division title, yeah we're going to win it, but I think it would be better served to get it over with ASAP than just waiting for it to happen.

Sort of like how cocky Reds fans [and national pundits] were coming out of the All Star Break.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Cards win

Just makes it a chance for the Brewers to really damage the Cards playoff hopes and spirits.

Yep, it’s going to be a fun week. Every middling team in the NL is going to be rooting for the Brewers over the next four days. Even a series split clinches the division and keeps the Cardinals from running away with the second Wild Card.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Let us hope!

We definitely CAN take care of business, so let's DO it (he said as if he had any control over it).
