2021-09-11: Brewers (Burnes) at Indians (Plesac) [Brewers win, 3-0 -- Burnes (8 IP) & Hader (1 IP) combine for NO HITTER]

Eye Black

Well okay then; nice to know I can ignore you and your laughable takes.

My take that I no longer enjoy the game as I did when I was a youth due to pitch counts (today's example), 7-inning doubleheaders, and other changes is laughable? Good grief. Has nothing to do with their success this season, I just don't enjoy watching the game as much as I did when I was younger.

Haven't you announced several times, not just in this thread, that you no longer like the game?

No.. don't.. stop. ... Come back. Please.

Just stop watching if you don't like it; let the rest of us enjoy this season.

Also, isn't this like the 8th time the Indians have been no hit this season?

I know its not actually 8, but I think its at least 3 now, right?

Yes the third time and Plesac was the starting pitcher for the Indians for all 3.

What I find ironic is a board full of baseball fans being apologists for being denied the experience most every fan dreams about. Yes we all want a World Series but that doesn't mean you have to compromise career and franchise milestones along the way because there's some perceived extra heightened chance a player could be injured. Any player can be injured at literally any time for any reason. It doesn't make sense to cave to fear, at least to me. A championship is as much about the journey as the culmination.

Whatever, I'm just disappointed. I'll get over it. It sure makes me care less about Juan Nieves' no hitter because the Milwaukee Brewers franchise just told me by their actions it doesn't matter.

This is exactly where I'm at....couldn't agree more

So you could say he gets no hit support from his offense.

The game changes like every other sport. That is literally the history of the baseball. Read some Bill James.

Yup. Absolutely. I just don't enjoy watching it as much as I did 20 years ago.

You must not be a Brewers fan because 20 years ago the Brewers were going on a decade of some of the worst baseball in literally the history of the game. So if you can't enjoy baseball now as much back then there is something wrong with you.

I don't get as excited watching games as I did as a teen either. But I just watched the Brewers pitch a no hitter while standing in front of the TV next to my 12-year-old baseball crazy son, and saw him well up with tears as Omar made that final throw to 1st. Enjoyment evolves as well.

Good perspective. And a kind reply. I appreciate it.

How many hits did the Indians have tonight? That's what I thought. The Brewers just pitched a no-hitter. Yes it counts. If you choose not to acknowledge it, that's on you. But history will disagree.

I think every one of us would have loved to see Burnes come out in the 9th. But the realist in many of us knew that wasn't going to happen. There was absolutely no way they were going to let Burnes pitch 130+ pitches. It just isn't the way the game is played anymore. The game has evolved.

Well said. My son and I were screaming as the last out was recorded. I enjoy watching my kids experience the journey. I certainly have an appreciation for the game I didn't have when I was younger. Maybe that translates to being less "excited" but I don't think so.

I mostly have. Just follow the box score now, except for a handful of regular season games. Similar to Bucks games. Please do enjoy the season and don't let a fan's opinion about their overall enjoyment of the game itself ruin your day or season.

I understand fans saying "I don't like the way baseball has changed"

I am personally not a fan of the 3TO aesthetic. Games that are 3 hours of guys standing around watching walks, strikeouts, homers, and the occasional ball in play (hyperbole for effect) aren't my cup of tea. I don't long for the days of 8 bunts per game and high-spike slides, but a nice middle ground.

It is what it is. Baseball, like everything, changes. Like RRB said, the way we enjoy the things we love changes as well. Baseball is not a static thing. It shouldn't be. Change is good, even if sometimes change sucks, in the way that we view a thing, an idea, or whatever.

My goodness. I said the game. Not the Brewers. I don't know if there is something wrong with me, but your reading comprehension is really struggling here. I don't enjoy 7-inning doubleheaders. I don't enjoy pitch clocks. I don't enjoy 3-batter minimums. I don't enjoy pitch counts. I don't enjoy watching the game of baseball at the professional level with the same enthusiasm as I did 20 years ago. That's it. I do enjoy when the Brewers have success and nothing about the two had anything to marry in these comments. I mostly watch the box score these days, for these reasons and hope the Brewers continue to play well. I just don't get the same enjoyment from the actual game. Today's example adding to the list.

No hitters aren’t that big a deal to me anymore because they have become much more common than they were decades ago. Winning the game and not overworking an ace pitcher are higher on my priority list.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I understand the decision. I wish he had let him just go for it. Sometimes I think you have to look beyond the raw numbers. Adrenaline kicks in. He looked great in the 8th. He said after the game he didn't feel like he was slowing down at all and felt better in the 7th and 8th than the middle innings.

I don't know. I get it, but I think if you were ever going to find a time and a place to make an exception to the rule...this was it. It very very likely would not have had any impact.

i don't know about anyone else but I dream of a world series and appreciate the steps the Brewers have taken to ensure the pitching staff is being handled in a way that makes that more likely. Even if those decisions only mean and infinitesimal improvement in the odds. Sacrificing team and career milestones is the definition of team and judging from the reaction of the team, they couldn't care less.

I agree with this. Baseball as a product is not my cup of tea. But I still enjoy it. You just have to watch it another way

What about the fans? This team does not have the buzz it should, if the game is still for the fans, a true no-hitter may have energized the dormant fans.

Until someone can show me the science that 130 pitches greatly increases chances of injury in one outing vs 115, this is really disappointing.

I'm glad you found a way to enjoy it. Seriously.

I feel nothing, I can't even enjoy the win right now much less a combined no hitter because no hitters have just been rendered meaningless within the borders of this state.

I've never been that impressed with combined no hitters anyway, they're not the same. They're nice in that your team likely won the game but not much beyond that.
