2021-09-11: Brewers (Burnes) at Indians (Plesac) [Brewers win, 3-0 -- Burnes (8 IP) & Hader (1 IP) combine for NO HITTER]

Eye Black

I'm glad you found a way to enjoy it. Seriously.

I feel nothing, I can't even enjoy the win right now much less a combined no hitter because no hitters have just been rendered meaningless within the borders of this state.

I've never been that impressed with combined no hitters anyway, they're not the same. They're nice in that your team likely won the game but not much beyond that.

I guess I don't understand how it retroactively diminishes Nieves'. Everyone knew that pitchers would be treated even more cautiously this year, especially those like Burnes who don't have a history of piling up innings. Is it as cool as if Burnes had finished it off, no. But it is still pretty cool, especially in the context of how dominating Burnes has been this season.

None of that has anything to do with buzz. They can't even sell-out a game. There's not the excitement we had last couple playoff runs, there's just not.

Almost nobody is selling out right now.

This! Milwaukee is 10th in attendance I do believe. Pretty damn good given population.

And that is with a city and it's fanbase being preoccupied by an NBA championship run for much of the summer. I walk around Milwaukee with Brewers stuff all the time and so many fans talk me about the Brewers. The city is into the team but there are reasons why sell outs may not be happening

Yup. Brewers are currently 10th in average attendance...

And? How does that disprove my point? Most teams have worse attendance? Badgers were sold out week 1, Bucks were sold out with thousands of people outside. And everyone was talking about them. That's buzz. Maybe, probably, that will build as the Brewers march through the playoffs but it's not there now.

Life has been busy and haven't been able to catch many games this season. Picked a good night to catch the last three innings.

During Nieves's no-hitter, I listen to an inning on my Walkman and no idea what was going on. Then had to sub reffing an intramural basketball games so a guy could head out of town, missing the end.

I was more impressed by Peterson's catch than Cain's.

Does the combined effort take away from the moment? I dunno. Maybe I'm old school and used to CG shutouts. But I understand the game is different today. Plus, I'm older and seen a lot so these moments don't have the same impact than when I was a teenager.

I cannot believe people here saying they didn't enjoy it. My son and I had a blast watching it together. Cool memory. Burnes seemed to completely understand not being able to finish it. Weird some fans dont

I always enjoy games in which the Brewers score a few runs early, and the opponent doesn’t score and hardly even threatens to score.

Let’s make this a Saturday night tradition. That’s two in a row now.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

2k behind the Yankees. And this is a problem? I mean there might be some extenuating circumstances right?

What about the fans? This team does not have the buzz it should, if the game is still for the fans, a true no-hitter may have energized the dormant fans.

Until someone can show me the science that 130 pitches greatly increases chances of injury in one outing vs 115, this is really disappointing.

This team doesn’t have the buzz? Maybe I’m missing something…

This is literally the best pitching 1-13 this team has ever assembled. Scoring runs at a very good clip. Playing very good defense besides Urias.

How many of you thought/think Madison Bumgarner's 7 inning no hitter should count?? I for one don't, it was 7 innings...I feel the same way about a "combined" no hitter. Everything now is about pitch counts, it's ridiculous.

As far as having a bigger picture in mind(A world series), you can't have both?? Corbin pitching a no hitter and the brewers winning the World series?? I agree with others who say, I want to see the statistical evidence that allowing Corbin to throw another 10-15 pitches diminishes their WS chances one iota.

Of course games aren’t selling out. The Brewers rely heavily on advance ticket and group sales and that really suffered this year with all of the uncertainty over what the situation would be.

I’ll bet their TV ratings are higher than normal.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I'm sure it would be exciting for a kid and a father watching him get excited. For a 51 year old guy and kids that are grown up, not so much.

To be clear I would have loved it without my son watching. It is sports. Have fun with it. If you can't enjoy a no hitter I am not sure what to say. But to each his own I guess

I'm not belittling anyone who did enjoy it. Like you said, to each their own. But I enjoyed Houser's three hit complete game shutout more than this. It turned out to be anti-climatic for me. If Burnes had finished it off then I'd feel differently.

Bucks had thousands of fans outside during the PLAYOFFS. This wasn't happening during the regular season. Football games are once a week so yeah, they tend to sell out regularly. It may not be there in your orbit, but it is in mine.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

The Badgers have like 6 games at home each year... The Bucks have half as many regular season games to fill as the Brewers and their arena holds less than half as many people as AFF... and you're referencing all the people outside the arena during the playoffs compared to regular season baseball games... these are not good comparisons.

Attendance is down across MLB. If you are expecting pre-pandemic levels it might be awhile...

The resale market for Packers tickets is way down. Summerfest, State Fair attendance way down. So was the MN State Fair attendance. Could be wrong, but the Bucks didn’t sell out the first couple games of the Hawks series. COVID is going to muck these things up for awhile. But I actually do wonder if the Brewers will sell out their playoff games…

We really comparing the Bucks to the Brewers? Lol

All the people outside were just there to get drunk and be trendy. Once Giannis is gone and the Bucks are back to being irrelevant no one will care about them. Heck, if they don’t make another finals it will only take a couple years.

One of the biggest moments in franchise history and people are trying to be negative and flex weird takes

This is because of covid and the Bucks, probably.

I would say much, much more the former than the latter.

I would be interested to know how much lower their ticket sales were before the season started than they are in a normal year when people from out of town are planning trips and groups are planning outings to games.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

There definitely weren't the normal corporate outings. There were zero available where I worked for the Dbacks. I can usually get one or three games a year in the corporate box here. This year they didn't buy any tickets and next year is unknown if they will renew the corporate box.

Giannis isn't going anywhere. He just bought a stake in the Brewers he loves this city so much. Totally disagree with your first take as well.

I think season ticket sales were up, shockingly. Surprising with how poorly the COVID fiasco went and many we pretty ticked

Didn’t say he was anytime soon.

Well, from all account it sounds like a young drunk fest. Everyone I knew that ended up in the district probably watched zero Bucks games before maybe 2-3 years ago. Hard to not say that was not largely a fair weather fan get together. Let me know when the Bucks have fans in bad years and rebuilding. Maybe Giannis keeps them relevent long enough to build a lifelong core…but I am not convinced.
