2021-09-08: Phillies (Gibson) at Brewers (Peralta) [Brewers win, 4-3 -- Escobar go-ahead HR proves the difference; Crew cuts magic number to 10]

BA complaining about length of games again….. he’s hardly here. If anyone needs to enjoy the entirety of game, it’s the TV guy.

Yeah, I agree.

Though, in BA's defense, this game is bad. No rhythm whatsoever. I love baseball, but these kinds of games are hard to enjoy for me aesthetically.

Well that settles it. Ashby has firmly grabbed the playoff spot from Peralta.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

So are you saying he never has to show any kind of form until the playoffs start

Didn't say that at all. I just think he's getting unfairly judged right now immediately after an injury. He's got more time left to get right again, and he will. But, more than fair to be concerned about how long that will take, if that's your point. I agree with that concern. I just don't think it's going to take into late September, let alone the playoffs for that to happen, IMO.

Guy wasn’t super sharp. yet still lowers his season ERA…but should lose his playoff spot. Tough crowd.

I don’t think Peralta is a lock either considering how he has pitched coming back from injury; that has to at least be a concern; even more, the way Houser and Lauer have pitched puts Freddy’s Game 3 in doubt, especially being four weeks out.

It's his second start, right... ?!

Exactly. From injury, right? If playoffs start next week, he pitches Game 3. NLDS Game 3 is over a month away. No need to “lock” him in now. Let’s see how he pitches in September first.

That’s a completely separate argument. Im not judging him now. Im just saying he isn’t a lock if he doesn’t show some sort of form coming off a dl stint. That’s all

Saying that he’s going to be full blower Freddy peralta after these “rehab” outings is a completely different conversation

Prospect Pundits: “The Brewers have a bottom 5 system.”

Brewers Farm System: “Here’s a dude ranked like 4th or 5th in our system that slings it from the left side and throws an exploding slider paired with a high-90s crooked fastball.”

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Ashby coming out of the bullpen in the playoffs could provide an exciting secret weapon in some key games.

Really like that potential weapon for the playoffs.

Been wondering a little bit whether Ashby profiles long-term as a starter or as a Haderesque reliever. Looks like he has the stuff that could play as a closer. (Maybe something for outside the game thread.)

So if Burnes gets rocked in his last 2-3 starts of the season is he out of the rotation too?

Crissakes. What do you think dude

If hate to get your take on this one… scares me too much.
