willy adames to injured list; activated 20 september

It's time to stop rushing these players back and let them heal 100%. We can't afford to have a handful of players having to play with lingering injuries into the playoffs. You could see it in the base running lastnight that Wily and Escobar are still battling with the pain.

It's September. everyone has aches and pains and strains at this point of the season. It's just a matter of what can you play through and what can't you. They have to find a comfortable middle ground. We're gonna struggle to score runs without Adames in the playoffs so it's gonna be important for him to get back and get some live in-game swings before the playoffs roll around.

If it were the playoffs they will probably just play through stuff like this. I don’t think there is big risk of a more significant injury. I don’t want to start the playoffs with them seeing live pitching for the first time in a month, so light playing time seems to be the best option.
I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Yeah, under the old roster rules, I doubt he goes IL.

Under the old rules it was pointless to put a player on the 10 day IL in September.

Realized this after I posted, haha.

Hoping rest helps.

That always bugged me playing Fantasy. You could have a player that would get hurt and couldn’t play, but he wouldn’t go on the IL so the fantasy manager couldn’t put the player on the IL and get a replacement. You could just cut the player, but if it’s a star who might come back, or who you might want to keep for the next season, you were stuck.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Willy Adames has been working hard in the gym since going on the IL with a quad injury but concedes he might not be back to 100 percent healthy until the offseason. "Hopefully by the time I have to come back I’m at least 95 percent and I’ll be good for the playoffs."

There's not much of a reason to activate him until the last few games of the season so he can get some game action before the playoffs.

Agreed. I could see them potentially activating him sooner but not having him play 9 full innings for a bit. Definitely need him to get some atbats against fresh pitching before he starts facing Scherzer, Fried, Gausman, etc.

Willy Adames said it felt great to put a glove on again.

"We are in a good spot and I don’t have to rush it and try to be quicker. I think we can take the right time to get rid of it completely and come back 100 percent. I feel about 90 [percent] right now. I feel great."

Should DL Garcia now to get him rested for postseason, bring Taylor back

If they do IL Garcia, they will likely need to carefully navigate the fact that he is currently 10 PA away from converting the 2022 club option to a mutual option. While it would be consistent with the approach they have taken with other players and not rushing them back from injuries (i.e. Wong, Adames, Taylor, Vogelbach), the MLBPA and Garcia's agent might see things differently.

If the goal is to get him ready for the post season then it stands to reason they'd have him back late in the season to get some ab's and knock off any rust. I don't know if post season ab's count but if they do then he's going to get way more than the necessary ab's anyway.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

Counsell said on Tuesday that Garcia’s back spasms were not serious and that he expected him back in the lineup tonight.

So many players are at less than 100% at this stage of the season that you couldn’t field a team if you put all of them on the IL. The Brewers are fortunate to be in a position to give players more time off than they would if they were in a dogfight for a playoff spot. But sitting one for a couple of weeks before the playoffs is just as likely, if not more likely, to make him rusty when the playoffs start (after 4 more days of rest after the season ends).

I trust that the coaching staff and team trainers have a good handle on how much rest a player needs and how serious their injuries are.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.
