If we get blown out today and Ashby looks amazing for 3 innings or so

, I think I'll feel more good than bad about today.

Although we need good Freddy back too.

Freddy needs to get back to normal. That’s our formula to win the whole darn thing

Reds down 10-3 now so our magic number will probably go down tonight anyway.

Yup. All things considered, you take it. Would be worse to spend the A pen and lose in extras.

Plus, Ashby is a positive.

If everything holds, our magic number will be 17 v. Cards and Reds, so would have to win tomorrow to drop it again.

Counsell bringing Topa in the 3rd got me scratching my head. Instead he is now wasting Ashby in a meaningless game.

Agreed. Ashby should have probably started the game. Then to waste him here is rough. Hope they don't send him down with the old we need a fresh arm angle.

Yelich ejected apparently.

We're just here for the nightly 3 hour Ump Show, and the players are fortunate enough to get to be involved in supporting roles and as extras.

Is that 4 ejections in the last month or so? Omar, Avi, Rowdy and now Yelich?

He wasn't even arguing that much. Wow.

It always seems that worse the call the shorter the leash.

My guess is that they intended to bring Ashby in tonight no matter what to let him throw a few innings and then start next Wednesday. I don’t know why they didn’t bring him in in the third unless they wanted him to have more time to get ready, like a starter would warm up. But I don’t think he is being wasted tonight because he wasn’t going to be used any closer to Wednesday anyway.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I guess maybe they are just looking bigger picture with Ashby here. Want to get him some long work, even in a blowout game, and continue grooming him for a likely multi inning middle relief role in the playoffs.

Honestly none of our games individually are all that important anymore. Just need to not go into a prolonged tailspin of losses and that's about it.
