For today, I would IL Anderson, and option Reyes, then recall Sánchez and Bettinger ( he can burn multiple innings) . And go In to the game steadfast that Hader Williams Box Strickland and Cousins do not pitch .

Then on Friday, I’d activate Peralta and Escobar and option Topa and Bettinger

Today is what it is. Just get through the game. If you win, awesome. But oh well if we take the L here. We've done our job. Mission accomplished.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Not sure why they would IL Anderson - unless you know something about the injury that hasn’t been disclosed yet. I suspect he is a guy they would rather have eat as many innings as possible this year so they can limit Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta.

I wonder if they can logistically get folks from AAA in time for the day game today. Would be nice to replace Topa for today, if nothing else.

With the three wins in the series in the bank and the bullpen stressed, I expect to see a classic getaway day lineup today. Bradley, Vogelbach, Maile, and Reyes are all candidates for a start. Maybe they want to give Adames a day off to give his quad a rest, and Yelich and/or Cain could use a break.Peterson can fill any opening created. I assume Wong will play if he hasn’t been called out on paternity leave yet.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Peralta, Houser, and Burnes have been announced as the starters for the Cardinals series, so they are apparently staying with the 6 man rotation until the off day next Thursday. Anderson’s turn would be up Tuesday, and if he can’t go then they could put Ashby in there.

If they want to start guys on 4 days rest they could skip Anderson’s apot and put Lauer in on Tuesday followed by Peralta. But I’m not sure they want to throw Peralta out there on 4 days rest that soon after his IL stint.

Putting him on the IL allows them to bring up a fresh arm today if they choose. Considering the bullpen game yesterday, that might be worth considering. If there's a fair chance he needs to miss a start, IL now may make sense.

As for today, I'm expecting Lauer to only go 4-5 innings with a piggyback behind him. Maybe Ashby, maybe someone else. Might depend on game situation.

Guys unavailable probably includes Strickland, Topa, Cousins, Suter, maybe Hader. I would hope Cousins is given tomorrow off as well considering back to back 30 pitch outings. Topa I just doubt they'd use back to back if it can be avoided. My guess is the goal is Lauer for 4-5, Milner or callup for 2-3, and if we're winning a close game maybe we roll out Box/Williams/Hader for the last 2-3 innings. Also it's certainly possible Ashby follows Lauer and they try to get the whole game done with those 2 guys with maybe Hader closing out a save situation. Will certainly be interesting to see how the pitching side is handled.

Good call on that first part, at least for Bettinger.

A 1 out of 10 in the 'Must Win' meter. See if Lauer and the offense have us in a position to win and think about using maybe Suter and Williams to close it out. If not, milk Bettinger/Milner/Topa.

Yeah, I think Suter would be available in the middle innings today if the game is in reach and Williams could serve as closer if a save situation presents itself in the ninth.

Hope Lauer can go at least 5, even if he gives up 4 or 5 runs.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I agree with your premise entirely, but ooof, that could be some bitter milk.

I mean, we’ve really beat the giants left and right aside from avi and the covid bullpen. Even when we’re not getting hits, we’re squaring up on the ball like this first inning. The giants are lucky to have 2 out of 7 and I like our chances if we get them in the playoffs.
