Not really sure what Yaz was doing taking a changeup belt high with 2 strikes. But will take it a 0 from Norris.

Edit. Fun moment. We're tied 2-2 top 7. Dodgers tied 2-2 top 7. Believe LA could take first from SF on a w/l.

So it's not just our hitters that do that?

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

When was the last time Counsell did it?

You're moving the goal posts with the Counsel qualifier but either way, just because he hasn't done it before doesn't mean he can't or won't do it now if needed.

I thought it was pretty clear in context that “they” referred to Counsell and the Brewers staff. But, if anyone can give an example of Counsell or any manager in recent memory bringing in the next day’s scheduled starter in relief in the third inning I would be surprised. All that does is mess up the rotation for the next few days.

Regardless, if somebody asks Counsell after the game tonight if he considered bringing in Lauer in the third inning, I would bet the answer would be a quick “no”. Sometimes the next day’s starter isn’t even in the park as they stay back to rest, and that might be especially true if the next day’s game is in the afternoon.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

In the contest for biggest positive hitting surprise of this season my two leading candidates would be Peterson, and Urias’ home run power. Any other nominees?

I put those ahead of Garcia and Narvaez because those guys have done things in the majors before.

Sequencing of pitches there. Seen a few changeups that dropped below strike zone. Hangs strike 3 on a changeup. Is what gets me. I can understand a curveball after hard pitches being let by since would start high. But he'd shown changeup before that was low.

I think Yelich issues on the watch it go by is over now that he's being far more aggressive.

Man that was a bad call, especially to load the bases. If I were a Giants fan I’d be … upset.

I recently read an article about Major League umpires and that the younger guys consistently grade out better on calling balls and strikes and I'm sure it's somewhat due to vision and reflexes that diminish with age.

This guy must be old, then. At least he’s consistently bad and doesn’t favor either team.

I genuinely wonder why MLB doesn’t have a smaller group of umpires to call home plate versus other positions. Grade out their performances, let the ones who are good at it continue, and pay them a bit more for each home plate assignment. I’m sure there are enough good ones to keep too much strain off everyone’s knees.

Or just let the robots take over.
