It is strange to me that Kapler said he thinks Cueto will start tonight, but all indications are he was placed on the 10 day IL yesterday. The Giants called up two players before yesterday’s game to take the place of Alex Wood and Cueto as well.

This would be a nice one to get and square away a series split right away.

I'm not at all worried about the dodgers catching the giants or seeding. If the dodgers catch the giants, they probably pass us and we're still the 2 seed anyways.

Right. To be precise, the Dodgers are already three games ahead of the Brewers, record-wise, so there is no passing being done. Brewers have to make up 3 and 4.5 games on LA and SF in the last month to be the number one seed. I am intrigued by the possible scenarios that could play out in the Dodger series that ends the season. But, that's September's problem!

It's really hard to tell whether Kapler just doesn't understand the COVID list stuff or whether they've designated Cueto in a way that didn't officially put him on the list.

I'm not sure anybody understands "the COVID list stuff." I thought that say a player received the vaccine and was feeling ill effects from that vaccine they could be placed on a "COVID list" for as little or as much time as necessary--like even a day or two. It kind of sounds like that might be Cueto's deal.

It will be an October problem whether it is regular season or playoffs.

If that was the case, then Yelich could've returned a lot sooner than he did.

The COVID IL has special rules. He had symptoms but not a positive test; if it turns out he's negative he can come off the IL, AFAIK. It's there so that players/teams report symptoms, without risking being gone 10 days if it turns out to be negative.

If that was the case, then Yelich could've returned a lot sooner than he did.

The post you're replying to is talking about vaccine side effects. Yelich tested positive, so it was a mandated 10-day (+ negative test) stint.

They might have kept him inactive longer than needed on purpose. If so, it seems to have worked.

Big game tonight.

I gotta think there is a good chance Hader, Box, Williams might not be available.

Going to need a great effort by the offense, by Woody, and likely by Strickland/Cousins.

Boxberger is a vet, I don't think a 3rd consecutive day of work is a huge concern for him.

Hader has done it, but it's rare. All depends on how they feel I think. If any of the 3 would be truly unavailable I would guess it would be Devin.

With a 9.5 game lead in the division I am not sure they want to push it with any of these guys.

Either way, I hope the offense just puts this one away early.

I'm not concerned about the Brewers getting the 1 seed. What I want is for the Giants to win the division so that the Dodgers are in the WC game and have multiple chances to get bounced before the Brewers have to play them (not to take anything away from the Giants, but the Dodgers are clearly scarier). Thus, I actually WANT the Brewers to be the 2 seed.

EDIT: I guess if both the Giants and Dodgers slide, the Brewers could be the 1 seed and would have to play the WC winner. Whatever, we'll see how it all plays out.

Cueto was put on the Covid list because he had some symptoms, but tested negative. So, they kept him away from the team.

Because he did not test positive and hasn’t been designated as a close contact with anyone who tested positive, he is not subject to a mandatory stay on the list. If he tests negative again today he could be taken off the list and start tonight. Otherwise, it will probably be Quintana.

As others have said, Yelich tested positive and was subject to a mandatory 10 day stay on the Covid list.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Cueto it is……apparently if you don’t test positive but are sick you can be put on the Covid list for a day and then be reactivated.

While trying to manage a fantasy roster this season I have seen this several times.

I just personally prefer the dodgers to have to go through the wild card game and have an elimination game right off the bat.
