By my count they have been 16-11 in August for a .593 winning percentage. So they are doing fine. Its just not a rate that will get them the division.

They started the month 6-1. Have been 10-10 since. Not that great

Yep. Then factoring in who they've been playing, it's been a bad last 3 weeks for the Reds.

They have played well enough to overtake the free falling Padres so it has been good enough. But yeah they could easily be with 4 or 5 of the crew but they didn't take care of business.

Man Boxberger has been a great pickup.

So has Strickland.

Not only is it amazing to think where the Brewers might be without them, it's also amazing that they were acquired for simply cash and were basically given away or not pursued by other teams.

Cousins fits this bill too.

Even Feyereisen was a marginal acquisition who chipped in 22 solid relief innings this year before getting flipped for some SS with a .197 batting average.

Losing 2 of 3 to Cubs is a killer

Yeah, that's fair. If the goal is to make the playoffs, it's been good enough. But under typical circumstances, 10-10 isn't usually going to be good enough. What the Pads are doing is just terrible.

A person could make an argument that makes Feyereisen's pitching performance that most impactful of the entire year...

Levering has been talking the entire half inning about Griffin Jax and his wife both being from the Air Force Academy, and Lane Grindell's addition to the conversation was a non-committal "mmm"

I'm actually sorry I missed that. It would have been better than constantly refreshing the radar screen and listening to eminent local meteorologists repeat that "hurricane Ida is a very dangerous storm", as if we didn't know that. Not to whine (well, not much) but I was distracted by a Cat 4 hurricane grazing my town and knocking out power (and we were lucky). For all the good it didn't do me to fret about the storm, I could have enjoyed hearing a Brewers win. I'll enjoy it post hoc by reading this thread and drinking a beer or 5.

And the thing about the wild card is it only seems like an achievement if you actually win the wild card game. It really is a league where only 6 of 30 qualify after the regular season and four more who have earned a coin flip for two spots. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing.

Were we also misinformed about the Brewers winning a series in Minnesota?

Who predicted that. The only mention I remember were one warning the Twind hadn't been playing all that bad and would be a challenge and another mentioning this looked like a trap series. I think you are making a straw-man argument here.

I had to board a plane shortly after making that post.

Maybe I should have put that comment in blue because I don’t think anyone said that the Reds were supposed to sweep the Marlins for the second weekend in a row, or predicted that they would. So, I was responding to a straw man argument with one of my own.

The point all along has been that the Reds have had, and will continue to have, a significantly weaker schedule than the Brewers in August and September that, along with the 3 game series against the Brewers, would give them a significant opportunity to gain ground. So far, they have done well against the part of the schedule that gave them the advantage, but gave back the gain plus a little more in the other parts of the schedule.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I know it must be killing you to see the Brewers continue to look like they’re gonna hold off the Reds for this tight divisional race but there is still plenty of room back on the Brewers bandwagon anytime you want to jump back on.

The only reason I read these game threads (almost always after the game is over) is to see BruisedCrew's negative posts. They brighten my day in a perverse way.

I too am having a really hard time enjoying the best Brewers team possibly ever. :laughing
