Colin Rea makes his third start for Nashville, hoping to get his first win and avoid his 3rd loss! He was quite effective in 48 innings in Japan before returning state-side for personal reasons. Keston Hiura’s batting 5th, trying to snap out of a 1-for-20 funk:

Wes Clarke (1.017 OPS in 55 PAs in Carolina) makes his 6th start at catcher for the Mudcats, which need to win to even up this week’s series with the Nationals 2-2:

Saw that recent Indy Ball signee James Meeker had another scoreless inning with two strikeouts last night.

Now up to 4 G | 6 IP | 0.00 ERA | 7 K | 0 BB since making the jump to affiliated ball.

Yes, he's a 26 year old in low A so the results need to be taken with a huge grain of salt, but he also put up 39 IP | 0.00 ERA | 55 K | 13 BB over 2020-21 before signing with the Brewers, so not giving up runs is nothing new.

Thanks for posting this as well as the other tidbits you dig up for these link reports. I definitely appreciate the effort that goes into it. Its often tough to see who is on a hot streak and you and Mass do a great job on these Link Reports.

Carlos has been an intriguing player to follow the last few years. Great hit tool and speed and I heard his defense is very good as well. But no power and previously he drew very few walks. The Brewers really pushed him this year. 20 year old skipping low A to play for Wisconsin and to no surprise he struggled early on. However, as I dug deeper, looks like they had him working on drawing more walks. His career walk rate his first two years was a paltry 3%. He has that up to 10% this year. His BA is now up to .265 and his OBP is .339. He may never provide much power but his floor is looking like a 4th OF, which still has value. His career splits are pretty dramatic, really struggling against southpaws, but a platoon bat as an occasional starter would be a nice realistic outcome. I saw him play once this year in Appleton and not much was hit to him so I did not get to see his defense. Can anyone comment on how good is his glove? Is that a potential plus tool. Fangraphs / MLB has him as a FV of 60 there so it sounds like it is.

Box: Fredericksburg (Nationals) 4, Carolina 1

Only the 2nd time all season the 36-64 FredNats have won three in a row.

Pre-Game Media Notes

Carolina Drops Third Straight 4-1 in Fredericksburg

Sal Frelick went 4-for-4 and Ernesto Martinez stretched his hitting streak to 12 straight in the loss

Low-A hurlers are allowed only two pickoff attempts per plate appearance.

Even so, some amazing (and alarming) figures here from Voice of the Mudcats Greg Young.

19-year-old Venezuelan RHP Miguel Segura jumped of the plane from the Dominican Complex League and has now shined in his first two stateside appearances as well.

18-year-old Venezuelan catcher Blayberg Diaz was on base all four times, including a three-run HR, his 2nd of the summer.

20-year-old Venezuelan corner outfielder Oswel Leones, a LH bat DH'ing here, 3-for-4 with three RBI, including a double. OBP .407 this year, career .363 (402 AB's).

Hey, there's RHP Miguel Segura pre-promotion, who gets credit for innings in both the D.R. and AZ today.

RF Hendry Mendez gets some official at-bats in both locales as well.

Box, Game Two: DSL Cardinals Red 6, DSL Brewers #1 Squad 5

What a wild final inning, tied at 2-2 heading in.

Two fielding errors by CF Rafael Martinez led to four unearned Cardinal runs. That offset his two hits, including a double, that has his OPS at 1.052 through a tiny 33 AB's. The 19-year-old switch-hitter and 2nd year pro began this season on July 26th.

First pro HR for 19-year-old Venezuelan 1B/RF Deivid Alvis.

18-year-old Dominican RHP Patricio Aquino finally has earned runs against him. But this could hardly be called a bad outing.

Massive early career day for 17-year-old Dominican RF Duncan Garcia. The RH bat turns 18 on Halloween.

Garcia was 4-for-5 including a go-ahead HR, his first as a pro, leading off the top of the 9th. In only 20 games, Garcia is 9-for-13 in SB attempts (.370 OBP in 62 AB's).

Top $ signing CF Jackson Chourio was the DH here, and walked three times. Not 18 years old until March, Chourio now sits at .221/.325/.347 (.652 OPS) after 95 AB's.

Is it just me, or is the temperature at these island games exactly 85 degrees every day? Like, not 84, not 86 (thank you, Giannis).

From Thursday's Link Report:

Is Joey Wiemer injured? He was due up as the tying run with two on and two outs in the 9th, but was instead pinch hit for (McClanahan walked, then Valerio had an RBI walk and Warren made the final out).

Wiemer did not play Friday. On Thursday, he was the DH and struck out swinging in final at-bat in the 7th.
