Joey Wiemer’s the hottest hitter on the planet (1.595 OPS over last 83 PAs) and he’s leading the Timber Rattlers back to the .500 mark (presently 47-51):

2 - Valerio - 2B

4 - Gray - CF

5 - Zamora - SS

6 - McGee - 1B

7 - L. Castillo - RF

Ernesto Martinez returns to the lineup after sitting out yesterday’s loss and Jefferson Figueroa makes his 4th start of the year (2nd at Carolina), as the Mudcats need to keep winning with Down East and Salem chasing us for a playoff spot:

Kind of a blah day all around for the whole organization. Frelick went 0 for 5 with 2 strikeouts. You haven’t seen too many of those from him at all. Howell with perhaps his best game as a Shucker and Mitchell picked up a couple of hits.

Rare back to back losses for the Mudcats, who fall 3-2 to Fredericksburg despite outhitting them 8-5.

Mike Wilson homered, Noah Campbell went 3-for-3 and Ernesto Martinez went 2-4 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. Tyler Black reached base three times, while Sal Frelick posted a rare 0-for-5 game.

Jefferson Figueroa took the loss (4 innings, 3.earned runs), while Robbie Baker and James Meeker pitched 4 shutout innings.

Thankfully Down East and Salem both also lost, keeping Carolina 2 games ahead of them for the 2nd playoff spot.

The Timber Rattlers briefly held a 3-2 lead in the 5th, but gave it back the same inning and ultimately lost to Quad Cities 7-5.

Two hits a piece for Freddy Zamora, Kekai Rios and Carlos Rodriguez, with doubles for Rios, Rodriguez and Joey Wiemer.

Is Joey Wiemer injured? He was due up as the tying run with two on and two outs in the 9th, but was instead pinch hit for (McClanahan walked, then Valerio had an RBI walk and Warren made the final out).

Starting pitcher Nick Bennett can't seem to get going, losing his 4th in 5 games since coming back down from AA Biloxi. Nash Walters pitched 2 shutout innings in relief.

Nashville lost another close one, putting them on the wrong end of 11 of their last 13 games, this one 2-1 to Gwinnett.

Matt Lipka had 3 of the team's 6 hits (including a double), with Westbrook (single), Vogelbach (RBI single) and Dahl (double) collecting the others.

Josh Lindblom took the tough loss: 2 earned runs in 6.0 innings with 8 strikeouts. Yardley, Alvarez and Torres-Costa pitched 3 shutout innings in relief.

In true upside-down bizarro world fashion, Biloxi are the sole winners amongst the MLB club and top 4 affiliates, easily handling Rocket City 6-2.

https://www.milb.com/biloxi/news/howell-s-career-night-powers-shuckers-to-6-2-victory

The team had 9 hits by 7 players, but Korry Howell did most of the damage: 2-5, HR, 5 RBIs. Garrett Mitchell and David Hamilton were each on base 3 games, while Mitchell stole 2 bases and Hamilton stole one.

Professional pitcher Lucas Erceg collected his second straight win, throwing 5 innings and only yielding one run (unearned). Braden Webb also threw two shutout innings in relief.

Box: ACL Giants Black 5, ACL Brewers Blue 4, seven innings

Insert your "black and blue" puns here.

Brewers get their feelings bruised...

In the 5th inning, 1B Branlyn Jaraba was called out on an automatic 3rd strike, and then got himself ejected. Get in the box, young man!

Earlier in the game, Jaraba hit his first stateside home run, he only began his season August 23rd.

Box: DSL Brewers #1 Squad 7, DSL Cardinals Red 4

Cerveceros scored six in the 2nd for a 7-0 early lead, then held on.

First pro home run for just-turned 18-year-old switch-hitting Dominican 1B Arnys Rodriguez, netting his first Link Report mention 19 games into his career.

CF Rafael Martinez clubbed a three-run HR in the big frame.

Box: DSL Yankees #2 Squad 8, DSL Brewers #2 Squad 3

Ok, so the Dueces Wild squad lived up to that nickname as they actually out-hit the island Bombers 9-2. The Yankees committed four errors and the Cerveceros none.

So what was that final score again?!

Crew pitchers struck out 12 but walked 15 and threw nine wild pitches.
