The Chase To 97...

clancyphile

The most games the Brewers ever won in a season was 96, achieved in 2011 and 2018.

They are 21 wins away from breaking that record. So, in honor of the 76th win, I figured why not start a thread similar to the magic number thread?

In this case, I ask for some forbearance on the pic - given that the subject is one of those now praying that somehow, ALS is on the receiving end of a K once and for all.

To get to 97, Brewers need to go 21-16 the rest of the way as we are currently 76-49 with 37 games left. That is reasonably possible for sure.

I use BRef often to look at standings they have a past 10, 20, and 30. I cant remember the last time in the last 30 the brewers were worse than 17-13. At 20-10 now. This seems inevitable. And just think Williams is 2020 Williams once again. Ashby is a bullpen addition. Yelich may be finding a power stroke. The team could be ready here to go on a 10game winning streak like the Yankees are in now.

Can we change this to 100? I could not care less if we get 97-99 wins. Record? So what.

Now if we got 100 wins, as the little market we are at such a disadvantage, now that, that would be impressive. I feel like if that happened the season would be incredibly memorable even if we got bounced in the NLDS. I wouldn't feel the same way if it were 97 wins.

Need to go 22-13 the rest of the way. That's roughly the pace we are on since Adames. We don't have many layups left in the schedule(Pirates/Dbacks/Cubs/etc), so getting to 100 will be truly earned in these last 35 games if it happens.

Maybe create a new thread if you really want, there is a magic number one as well. It makes more sense to keep at 97 as that would be the franchise record.

For the record, I wasn't literal. I for one hope we blow past 97 and get to 100.

Winning over 100 games in a season isn't that big of a deal...

I like all these goals...let's get to 85 first, as that wins my season bet on the Brewers. Then I don't care much about how many wins, as long as we win the division for those bets. Once we achieve those two, then my NLCS champs and World Series champ bets are in play.

Since there's 34 games left...

  • The worst 34 game stretch all year was 15-19 from 4/13-5/21
  • The best was a 26-8 stretch from 5/29 - 7/3.
  • Last <.500 stretch over 34 games was 16-18 from 4/25 - 6/1
  • They have not been worse than 20-14 over 34 games since a 19-15 stretch from 5/13 - 6/19

A 19-15 stretch gets you to... 97-65.

Yep, the goal is not to get bounced in the 5-game divisional round. That means we need everyone healthy and well-rested with the rotation lined up to go against Atlanta. It's a new scenario for Stearns/Counsell since they were fighting up to the last game in past Septembers, but I assume they will sacrifice some wins in order to get ready for the postseason.

This reminded me of the "Seven Minute Abs" scene from the movie There's Something About Mary. What if someone just came out with "Six Minute Abs?"

My wife wanted to use this album cover as a theme for our wedding invites.
