2021-08-24: Reds (Mahle) at Brewers (Burnes) [Brewers win, 7-4 -- Crew scores 6 unanswered runs in comeback victory]

Eye Black
Shut up about "too close to take", Rock. A ball is a ball. Don't insult a guy for having a good eye and being punished for it.

Since the beginning of baseball pitches on or near the corner have sometimes been called strikes and sometimes balls. There is no possible way a human being behind home plate will call 100% of those pitches the same way the box on the tv calls them. By taking a borderline pitch, you run the risk of striking out...

Thus, "too close to take"

They weren't borderline. They were off the plate. Did you see it?

Keeping Burnes in was kind of dumb. You basically conceded an out to start the bottom of the 5th, for what? Burnes clearly didn't have it tonight. I would have rather saved the pitches on his arm. Sending him back out for the 5th was fine. He should have been PH for to lead off the bottom of the 5th.

Yeah by like an inch. That's what's considered borderline.

And left in to finish the sixth after giving up another…now down 4-1.

An inch or two outside is outside. So an umpire should only be expected to be able to call pitches that are 6 inches off the plate correctly which any half drunk blowhard sipping Heineken at home could call correctly?

As successful as this team has been, It does not seem to come back at all once down in the later innings. Two comebacks on the road in the 9th against the Rockies and Cardinals. The announcers talk often about all the comebacks, but they have been almost exclusively small early deficits. The team has not had a walk off in the 9th at home all year. And has never even tied it at home in the 9th that I can remember

Given our record, it has seemed like there have been very few walkoff wins.

Good lord, is this like your first year watching baseball?

There is not a human being alive who gets 100% of pitches correct within a few inches of the strikezone, never has been, and never will be either. Cry about it if it makes you feel better I guess.

It’s sort of interesting to see that impression, because this year’s team actually gives me more hope for late innings offense than in the past.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Yeah, 2018 team scored a lot early. Seems like this one scores more late.
