The latest Nashville pre-game audio interviews, released on Monday via Jeff Hem's blog:

August 17 – Hitting Coach Al LeBeouf

August 19 – OF David Dahl

August 20 – RHP Colin Rea

August 21 – RHP Justin Topa

August 22 – Manager Rick Sweet

***

Sweet indicates that catcher Mario Feliciano should be back soon from his latest injury absence - he took a foul ball right off the same shoulder he had been rehabbing most of this season.

It’s essentially a doubleheader for Wisconsin in Quad Cities today, playing the remaining 8.5 innings of Game One, then a 7-inning Game Two. Ashton McGee makes his High-A debut in the opener:

1 - Warren - 3B

2 - Gray - CF

3 - McGee - 1B

4 - Pinero - SS

5 - L. Castillo - RF (to lead off 2nd inning)

6 - Valerio - 2B

7 - Rodriguez - LF

8 - Kahle - C

9 - Wiemer - DH

X - Castaneda - P

{UPDATE: they’ve now updated the box score to indicate Wiemer batting in the 3 spot and McGee in the 9 spot}

The top of that Carolina lineup is going to be fun to watch the rest of the season.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Garrett Mitchell snapped an 0-for-25 skid in this game. He had not had a hit since August 6th, then he immediately missed a week of games, and clearly did not have a ball find a hole since his return to the lineup.

The work of the Rattlers' Victor Castaneda drew compliments from River Bandits Manager Chris Widger as well.

"He mixed up his speeds, used his change-up and breaking ball well and we had trouble making adjustments. Hopefully that was a one-day deal," Widger said.

More in this article, including additional news on the lineup mix-ups Chris described well himself.

Box: ACL Rangers 5, ACL Brewers Blue 4, seven innings

Walk-of loss on a walk in a messy final frame for RHP Oscar Castaneda.

The prior inning, it was the pro debut for 2021 18th round RHP Ryne Moore (Old Dominion), who survived two walks himself.

The Rangers pitched Jose Corniell. The Brewers pitched Alexander Cornielle. Gotta love box scores.

Jheremy Vargas, playing first base, singled and walked three times.

Box: DSL Brewers #1 Squad 4, DSL Mets #2 Squad 1, seven innings

RHP's Jesus Rivero and Rosmel Reyes, along with LHP Leoni De La Cruz, allowed only one hit, but combined to walk seven and hit two others.

In just his second professional game, 17-year-old (only turned 17 last May) Venezuelan catcher Jason Ollarve, a left-handed bat, doubled, singled, and drove in three. Ollarve signed June 25th.

Box: DSL Diamondbacks #2 Squad 4, DSL Brewers #2 Squad 3, nine innings (scheduled for seven)

18-year-old Venezuelan RF Eduarh Colina hit his 2nd home run of the season, also singled.

True 18-year-old (meaning just turned 18 in April) RHP Gerson Calzadilla went seven innings, allowing two unearned runs - 5 H, 0 BB, 3 K.

Calzadilla has yet to allow an earned run in seven appearances (two starts) covering 20.1 IP (only two walks), four unearned runs allowed, a 0.64 WHIP to go along with the shiny 0.00 ERA.

Despite allowing the ghost runner and one additional run to score (in his second "ghost runner" inning), 19-year-old RHP Michael Perdomo has been crazy good as well: 31-to-3 K-to-BB in 21.1 IP (1.69 ERA).

So the other DSL game grabbed the headline with the one-hitter, but it's Calzadilla and Perdomo who deserve our focus on this night.
