Upcoming minor League free agents

I'll take a crack at this one. There's a decent chance I'm forgetting someone. Also, I'm going off of the rule of just including everyone whose careers started at or before 2015. There is a chance there is an indy ball player who just signed a one-year deal and would have to be reupped like I believe Cousins initially did or that someone like Luis Perdomo actually signed a two-year deal. None of that is covered here.

While there are a few people on this list who I am guessing the team might look to bring back on minor league deals, and there is always a chance that the Brewers either think by season's end they have fixed whatever plagued Dahl the last two years or become convinced that Westbrook's play on either side of his Olympic stint represents a legitimate breakout, the biggest questions about adding guys to the 40-man probably surround a pair of pitchers.

The first is Perdomo, assuming he didn't sign a two-year minor league deal and his rehab is going well. The second is, of course, a contender for the organization's pitcher of the year award despite not being with the organization when the year started, Carlos Luna. Much will depend on Perdomo's rehab and if the Brewers think Luna has big league caliber stuff. I'd put both at 50/50.

I agree with Luna as a possible 40 man roster add. Same for Perdomo and Dahl. Neither signing made sense unless they consider adding them to the 40 man roster.

Players I think they should try to resign for next year with minor league contracts: Any of the above three if not added to the 40 man. A. Palma, Westbrook, and/or Lipka. They will need some OF depth at AAA in 2022. I'd hate to lose QTC but he has had a terrible year. Otherwise the rest are all kinda meh and interchangeable with other free agents.

I'd like to see the Brewers bring back Westbrook, Dahl, and Luna next year. I'm surprised Westbrook never got a chance in the majors last year as he looked good all year and is versatile. Dahl will shop around for the best opportunity. Luna may give us the hometown discount and is the likeliest of the three to resign. Otero is another possible name.

Baseball America released their list of minor league free agents.

Ray Black is actually on the Restricted List and as such is still technically Brewers property, so he's removed from the now-edited-to-match-BaseballAmerica initial post in this thread.

Bummer, OF Mitch Longo is indeed a FA and has been added.

Eric Yardley wasn't an automatic FA after his DFA, but he is now that the deadline passed.

Still with the team apparently, great news:

OF David Dahl

OF/INF Jamie Westbrook

RHP Luis Perdomo

RHP Connor Sadzeck

OF/1B Dustin Peterson

RHP Carlos Luna

LHP Andy Otero

RHP Nash Walters

All seven players are listed as "Active" over at MiLB.com, while the free agents are listed as such on their player pages.

So while there may have been some two-year minor league contracts signed last year, or offers to extend were made in recent weeks, or there was just confusion on our part regarding service time for some, these seven represent some of the organization's better farm performers in 2021.
