This is really premature, but have the Brewers ever had a July 2 signing start the year in full season ball after just one year in the system? I'd imagine they'd prefer to take things a little more slowly like they have with Perez, but man Mendez hasn't missed a beat since coming stateside.

Sounds Losing Streak Extended to Seven Games

Matt Lipka, Daniel Vogelbach and Dustin Peterson Homered in The Loss

Sounds led 10-5 heading to the bottom of the 8th...

It's been a season to forget for LHP Quintin Torres-Costa, who turns 27 next month. He'll be a minor league free agent at the end of this season. RHP Eric Yardley was no help, allowing all three of Torres-Costa's runners to score.

NOTE:

(That reminds me, time to start posting the "due for free agency" and "eligible for Rule 5 selection" lists. I know many of you follow and track that closely, and if someone wants to take a crack at it, feel free to start a new thread for each, and as a community, we can review each list with a fine-tooth comb for accuracy. All MLB organizations will have it tough with Rule 5 protection, as the lost 2020 season counts as service time. You'll see some very inexperienced names on that list.)

What a lost season for Mario Feliciano (.446 OPS in 67 AAA at-bats).

Speaking of potential minor league free agents, unless RHP Carlos Luna (25 next month) signed the rare two-year free agent deal this spring with the Crew, Luna and his agent would find Carlos in demand should he select free agency over a re-up with Milwaukee.

Welcome back, RF Tristen Lutz (0-for-3, BB, two K's). It was June 30th when he had to exit after a HBP, unclear whether hand or wrist took the brunt.

Garrett Mitchell, playing LF here, now has his AA sample of at-bats up to 98 (.578 OPS).

That top four in the lineup should look awful familiar to 2021 Mudcats fans.

AUDIO via Reviewing the Brew's "Cold Brew Podcast": "Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll are joined this week by Carolina Mudcats broadcaster Greg Young.

The Brewers Low-A affiliate has been having an excellent 2021 season, and Greg is able to give us in-depth scoops on the team and how some Milwaukee Brewers prospects have been performing this year. We start with a discussion of what Greg has seen with the outfield studs that have graced the grass in Zebulon, North Carolina this year, including Joe Gray Jr., Joey Wiemer, and most recently, the Crew's 2021 first round pick Sal Frelick. Among the other Brewers hitting prospects discussed are Ernesto Martinez, Zavier Warren, Felix Valerio, Gabe Holt, and Freddy Zamora. On the mound, we discuss flamethrower Abner Uribe, along with Justin Bullock, TJ Shook, and Brandon Knarr. It's a fun and insightful episode with Greg, and is full of information on some top Brewers prospects."

No kidding. Still 17-years-old through season's end (and I'll remind everyone of that each mention), CF Hendry Mendez is now 8-for-14 with two triples (one BB, three K's) stateside.

2021 Compensation Pick 2B Tyler Black made his pro debut, 0-for-2, BB, K, throwing error.

Box: DSL Giants Black 10, DSL Brewers #1 Squad 9

Wild walk-off loss.

Ten free passes issued, along with two HBP's, by Cerveceros pitchers.

All ten Crew position players picked up at least one base hit. In fact, except for one Giants batter (who walked twice), all players had a knock in this game.

Recently-turn3d 18-year-old Venezuelan 2B Miguel Briceno was placed in the leadoff spot despite lagging numbers, and singled three times to lift his OPS to .436 after 61 at-bats.

Congrats to 18-year-old Venezuelan OF Jose Gonzalez on his first professional home run (pulled a fly ball to LF).

Box: DSL Brewers #2 Squad 3, DSL Colorado 2 (nine innings, scheduled for seven)

17-year-old CF Jackson Chourio had his career-to-date moment, a leadoff (ghost runner) two-run walk off blast to end the game. Chourio signed for $1.9 million in January.

Fantastic work by the two Crew pitchers, as soon-to-be 19-year-old Nicaraguan RHP Jared Albir and 18-year-old Dominican RHP Henrison Mota (ERA still 0.00) shined.
