When I was a kid, I always thought that Jerry Reuss, especially when he was winding down his career playing for the Brewers, looked like that kindly high school physics teacher who was only months away from retirement. He's somehow only 72 today, yet has looked that age for 40 years.

The two things I immediately think of with Jerry Reuss are 1) the Brewers basically traded for him because he had specifically dominated them repeatedly, and 2) he used to explore stadiums and take photos including capturing some great photos of County Stadium.

Also, if the Cardinals beat the Reds today, their magic numbers will be the same (depending on the outcome of the Brewers game, that would be either Robin Yount or Gorman Thomas). That has to do with StL having 3 more games remaining than the Reds do (currently 32 and 29, respectively).

I always thought he looked like my dad. I was like Dad look your on the field and in the stands how is this possible? He was not amused.

How can anyone forget Don Sutton? The Brewers probably don't even make the playoffs in 1982, much less the World Series if Harry Dalton doesn't trade for him.

Absolutely…. Needed his arm. Funny thing, that trade happened today, on August 31, not late July.

Sutton's impact was a bit overrated. In three of his four regular season wins, the offense scored 14, 15 and 10 runs. They don't win the ALCS without him throwing a gem against the Angels when they were down 2-0, but he pitched very poorly in the World Series.

Was going to post this. I agree.

He won game 162 and pitched well, but he was just OK overall.
