Magic Number

bork
Checking the Cardinals rotation & it looks like Wainwright is lined up for Sunday so we should get Woodford, Lester, Mikolas & Happ for the four games at AmFam.

I'm seeing Wainwright for today with Happ on Sunday. So the Cards get to deal with Peralta, Woody Houser and Burnes.

Good catch. Just saw that Happ had been following Mikolas (who pitched yesterday) the last few trips through the rotation & didn't realize they bumped Wainwright up with the off day. Looks like Waino should line up for the Thursday game at AmFam then.

I honestly don't really fear facing any pitcher the Cardinals have. I feel like our fifth best is better than their best

You have no fear or respect for Wainright then, who is a top 5 CY Young pick this season. Awful take.

The only numbers I remember for Thomas with the Brewers are 44, 3, and 20. He obviously would have given up 44 when Hank Aaron came to the Brewers in 1975. After the 1976 season he was traded to the Rangers and when he returned to the Brewers in 1978 he started with number 20. I don’t recall if someone else on the Brewers had 3 at that time or if he just wanted a different number.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

There are pics of him wearing #56 too, but it appears that he never wore it in the regular season.

Maybe those would be spring training pictures before he ever made the major league roster. In those days that would be a pretty unusual number for a position player on the regular season roster.

I was just thinking of Arcia. He knocked in the winning run on opening day and I was wondering if he’d receive a ring if the Brewers win the whole thing.

Orlando Arcia would 100% be offered one, teams pretty much offer rings to everyone that was on the team at any point in the year. The likes of Zach Godley, Jordan Zimmerman, and John Axford would likely be offered rings too.

Of course a player can decline if they so choose. Probably easier to just offer it to everyone versus trying to decide what constitutes worthy of a ring.

Wouldn’t it almost be embarrassing to have a ring if you made a token appearance for a team and did nothing to even help them win a game? Or like Sal Romano whose only contribution was negative.

Probably and many players very well may decline rings in such instances. Of course they could always take it and then sell it if their career is that lowly and $15k is a lot of money to them. Dan Uggla is always a popular example. He was absolutely worthless in four games for the Giants and got a 2014 ring.

For a team that just won a World Series spending an extra $250k on rings isn’t the biggest deal in the world. The 2018 Astros gave out a staggering 1,300 rings.
