Magic Number

bork
For the Brewers it would look pretty silly to have a locker room champagne celebration one day and then another one for clinching the division the next day when both are foregone conclusions.

Any time I see the Brewers celebrating, it's a good thing.

I will allow one celebration. Only one! Then I will go back to policing body language.

Right? :)

I do think we can make an executive clarification/decision that this thread is primarily for the countdown to the division title. If others want to note other milestones, such as the elimination of opponents along the way, etc., those can continue as one-off items. But the thread is counting ultimately toward a division title.

I would guess the Brewers are somewhat required to do something because of the 'on the field' merch/apparel that goes with clinching a spot.

I did check out the Giants and Dodgers offerings, and I'm not to excited to spend 80 bucks on a sweatshirt. It seems like Nike does the same thing every season.

Looks like the magic number to clinch the division won’t be moving today as the Cards score 5 in the first against the punchless Mets.

Nothing tomorrow either as both teams are idle.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

still 7 games vs the Cards could get nerve wrecking

No chance. We could go 1-6 in those games and I still wouldn't be worried.

I wouldn't be worried about the Cardinals. I would be worried about how poorly we are playing heading in October.

I don’t think the official MLB Postseason apparel has anything to do with Nike. In fact this year it all carries the Fanatics logo, which is the first time I’ve noticed the Fanatics logo creep onto MLB apparel (actually two Fanatics logos if you look close enough).

EDIT: I went back and looked at a past Brewers Postseason shirt (the “Respect Milwaukee” one) and it did have that smaller Fanatics logo with the MLB logo near the bottom, but didn’t carry the new larger one on the left chest of the shirt.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

The Brewers have a 12.5 game lead with 16 games remaining. What you are suggesting is not an absolute statistical impossibility, but it is definitely toeing that line.

I will get borderline nervous about the division if we don't clinch this weekend AND the cards 4 game sweep us next week. I'll also be incredibly nervous about what we'll do in the playoffs considering that will be pretty embarrassing this close to the playoffs. All that is pretty unlikely though. Most likely people should have their celebratory beer ready for this Sunday or Monday. Cards play the Padres this weekend and I'm kinda expecting SD to get 2 of 3.

Nike has their own playoff merchandise as well. I think this is what the players wear in the dugout. If i were to buy something, i'd get this. I do not care for Fanatics branded merchandise. it doesn't seem to fit right on me

Got it, I thought you were referring to what the players were wearing during the celebration after they clinched. In the case of the Giants it was the Fanatics gear, and I’d assume it’ll be the same for the Brewers. As far as the dugout apparel during the playoffs themselves, I think you’re correct that it’ll be the Nike stuff.

Fanatics and their private label brands (Colosseum, etc.) are the absolute worst crap-quality sports merchandise and apparel that I have ever purchased. I've purchased 3-4 Badgers things through Bucky's Locker Room and received another as a gift and all of them have fallen apart within three months of purchase. Note that they never have reviews on their websites.

If you buy anything through their websites, make sure it is a well-known name brand (Under Armour, Columbia, etc.).

For the Brewers to clinch this weekend they’d have to get the “preferred” result in 5 of the 6 games (Cubs-Brewers and Padres-Cards). Considering that the Cubs have gotten a little more competitive than when the Brewers played them right after the fire sale (though the Giants disposed of them pretty easily last weekend) I’m really not expecting it to happen on Sunday. But, if they can get just 3 preferred results out of 6, that would set up the first of 4 potential clinchers on Monday.

If the Brewers don’t clinch the division during the Cardinals series next week, that would be aggravating on two levels. I don’t think anyone wants to see the Brewers drag this out, and if they don’t clinch by then it would mean that the Cardinals have taken a commanding position in the wild card race.

Monday should be an interesting day.

Wait, is this theoretical or you actually talking about how poorly they're playing now?

Because if it's the latter..........I don't really now what to say. I'm hoping (and assuming) it's the former.

this is getting way off topic, but you are 100% correct. I normally stick to Antigua, Cutter & Buck, Columbia or Nike for on-field stuff. Fanatics stuff is crap and it pains me that they are getting more and more into the on field celebration clothes.

He was definitely referring to 'IF' we were to get swept by the Cardinals and are performance at that point. Not right now, as of September 16th.

I’m quite sure he meant that he would be concerned about how the Brewers were playing IF they lost 6 of 7 to the Cardinals.

I think a lot of us would be unhappy about that.

Yes, correct. It was based on the hypothetical of losing 6 out of 7 to the Cardinals coming true.

Checking the Cardinals rotation & it looks like Wainwright is lined up for Sunday so we should get Woodford, Lester, Mikolas & Happ for the four games at AmFam.

I'm seeing Wainwright for today with Happ on Sunday. So the Cards get to deal with Peralta, Woody Houser and Burnes.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave
