BF.net Fan Community Top 25 Prospects - 2021 Mid-Season Edition - Results

The Brewers named Joey Weimer their offensive POY this year. Dude hit .295 with a .405 OBP between A and A+.

It doesnt appear he received a single vote in the mid-season rankings.

If we re-voted today I would have him in the top 10.

Wiemer had 29 points, the 38th highest total.

Ah yes, you are correct.

Still amazing the dude still wasn't sniffing the top 25 and ended up the Brewers minor league hitter of the year.

Wiemer was not on a lot of lists as this was his first season in pro ball - and when voting occurred - his numbers were good - but not amazing or anything (75 games, 13 HR, .276 BA, .868 OPS at A- Carolina).

But then he was called up to A+ Wisconsin on Aug. 9 - and went on a friggin' tear. 14 HR, .336 BA, 1.146 OPS - in just 34 games. It was an amazing run. But it wasn't figured into this year's midseason vote. If we voted now - things would - undoubtably - be very different.

I'd say the same thing about Freddy Zamora (although not quite as dramatically). He was hitting around .248 at the end of July. He then hit .371 the rest of the way out - ending up at .300 for the year.

Both Zamora and Wiemer will move up my list on the next ballot.

Effects from the cancellation of the 2020 minor-league season, IMO. I think the Brewers are going to really regret the loss of the Short-Season A and Rookie-Plus leagues. They really need a super-robust farm system, given their market limitations.
