In the 98 combined career plate appearances the current Brewers hitters have against Adam Wainwright they’ve never hit a home run. Today would be a good day to change that.

On the other side, Burnes has been excellent against the Cardinals hitters (.214 BA / .240 OBP), but he has allowed 5 home runs in 87 combined plate appearances for these Cardinals batters.

All 5 of those HRs were before May 2nd 2019. The Before Times for Corbin.

- 3 on March 31st.

- 1 on April 17th.

- 1 on May 1st.

Yeah this was during that 2 month stint in 2019 that he was dreadful at the MLB level, before he went to the lab and transformed himself into arguably the best pitcher in baseball.

I was looking at Wainwrights stats and surprised how good they were, i also realized over the last 2 months he hasn't faced a single good hitting team. Some might argue the giants, but they aren't THAT good at hitting I don't think...most of their winning has come from really good pitching. Also over the last 2 months those were his only 2 non-quality starts. I don't really buy that he's all of a sudden a good pitcher again. I think he's just figured out how to get bad hitters out and will struggle against a better lineup. Here's hoping I'm right.

Hard to know what to expect from the Cards. I was going to comment that it sure was nice of them to kind of figure out how to win games again just in time to play something like 13 games against the Brewers during this final stretch of the season but really they've just mostly taken advantage of playing bad teams for the most part. They did go 4-2 vs. the Giants though.

Considering we have all of our big 3 going this series, and all 3 are RH pitchers against a heavily RH lineup...I'll be disappointed if we don't get 2 of 3. I don't care that it's cardinals, I don't care that it's on the road...if we can't get 2 of 3 with these pitchers against this team...how will we get 2 of 3 against the Dodgers or Giants or other better rosters?

Wainwright has been a thorn in the Brewers side for a couple of decades. He not only pitches well against them, but he seems to get a big hit almost every time he faces the Brewers.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Recipe for success is going to be to hope to push a few runs across early, then hope Burnes is on his game.

I'm thinking we score 1 early, Burnes has a no hitter into the 6th but gets wild and walks a couple before giving up a 2 run double. Suter comes in and gets the final out of the 6th before the Brewers score 8 in the top of the 7th. Suter with the W.

We just can’t get rid of Molina and Wainwright, can we? These guys are almost 40 and still effective. Anyway, the Cardinals have just an OK bullpen so if we can get Wainwright’s pitch count up early and get to their pen, I like our chances.

Giants are 3rd in the NL in runs scored……only 2 runs behind #2 Braves.

They have a very good offense.

Wainwright has only given up more then 3 runs in a game once since the beginning of June…..and that was 4 vs the Giants.

If we score 4 or more runs against him tonight we will have earned it.

As always you could flip a guy or 2 but this is really a solid lineup now.

I occasionally lurk other fan forums, I see an awful lot of "well their offense isn't that good". I feel like they saw how bad it was the first 1.5 months of the season and don't realize how different the current team is. Tellez is batting 7th, he probably should be a bit higher given he's been our best hitter since the all star break but the top 7 players in the lineup are quality hitters. Even Cain on the downswing of his career has a 754 OPS since the all star break...a pretty darn good 8 hole hitter. To top it off, we have guys with a 930 OPS and 870 OPS since the all star break on the bench.

Since June 26th (43 games) the Brewers are batting .269 (4th in MLB) with a major league leading 251 runs and 5.84 runs per game (2nd in MLB)

The batting order reflects Counsell’s preference for alternating lefties and righties if possible. It’s nice to see a threat in the #7 spot.

And only half of those runs were scored against the Cubs.
