After a tough loss for the team yesterday, TJ Shook tries to replicate his last start (5 innings, 0 runs, 5 Ks) to deliver a critical win for Carolina:

Nashville aims to stop a 2-game skid, sending Josh Lindblom out for his 13th start for the Sounds, for whom he’s been terrific (1.60 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 9.4 K/9 in 62.0 innings):

Six up, six down with 2 Ks for RHP James Meeker's MILB debut with Brewers' Low-A affiliate Carolina. Nice to have "the next Anthony Bender and Jake Cousins" aboard the organization.

That's awesome. Reading the link Mass posted in the transactions thread makes it pretty much impossible not to root for the guy.

Zamora with a 4 hit night. Maybe flying under the radar a bit but having a pretty solid season.

Cool to see Zamora heating up a bit here down the stretch.

Fun to compare / contrast him & Hamilton for best SS prospect after Turang.

Skimming over the lists it looks like Freddy will come in higher on the BF.net Top 25, but I had David ranked higher because his speed is the loudest tool between the two & he's had better results at a higher level.

Either way, nice to have multiple intriguing SS (might as well throw in Garcia in there too) spread throughout the system.

John LaRossa is a 26 year old in high A ball with the Rattlers. He has now given up 49 earned runs in 34.2 innings. He was never a draft pick and has pitched in the minors only in this season. Was this a fan who won a contest or something and gets a free spot on the Timber Rattlers for a year?

DSL Brewers #1 Squad 12, DSL Brewers #2 Squad 10, nine innings (scheduled for seven)

Of course the rare offensively-charged DSL game comes as the two Crew teams square off. It was tied at 6-6 at the end of regulation.

Each team scored three runs in their "ghost runner" 8th.

There were four HBP's in the game, that doesn't seem very friendly.

Ten of the 12 inherited runners were stranded, so that's something by the mound men. But also mix in eight wild pitches and a balk.

19-year-old rookie Venezuelan RHP Michael Perdomo has struck out 26 and walked just three in eight games (17.1 IP), so one to watch.

Just-turned 18-year-old Dominican RHP Henrison Mota is yet to allow a hit (two walks, one HBP) in five brief outings.

Between the teams, four extra-base hits (two doubles for 17-year-old LH-hitting LF Yeison Perez and four stolen bases (two by 18-year-old Dominican CF Mendy Ferreira).

17-year-old Venezuelan SS Pedro Riera walked four times and now has a fun .122/.379/.171 line in 41 AB's. A bit Yelich-like, no? I'll see myself out.

Recently-turned 17-year-old Venezuelan catcher Felipe Valderrama, batting 3rd, reached base all five times up. Even after all that, his line is .184/.259/.204 (49 AB's), so safe to say Saturday was a career day for Felipe.

Both teams now 12-11 on the season (standings).

Safe to say breaking down that box score is 20 minutes of my life I won't get back...

Box: Louisville (Reds) 7, Nashville 6, ten innings

Louisville is 36-52, and yet the Sounds are in a funk. Of course, the makeup of a AAA roster evolves and devolves often during the course of a season.

And yes, this version of Corey Ray is highly intriguing!

Box: Mississippi (Braves) 4, Biloxi 0

Not even Garrett Mitchell's return (yes, thanks for the emotional relief, Garrett Greene) can save us from the overall malaise that is the 2021 Shuckers.

Box: Great Lakes (Dodgers) 13, Wisconsin 2

Gee, another fine night on the farm thus far, will Carolina save us?

Great Lakes Batters Rattlers

Loons score early and often on the way to a 13-2 win

By Chris Mehring

Joey Wiemer double, single, walk, 1.359 OPS in his 5 Wisconsin games.

It's Wisconsin's turn to play with an extra-lean bench, just 11 position players currently on the roster, with one of the two subs whoever is not catching that night.

The Rattlers provide such a friendly service to road teams by including their scoring plays in the full highlight package. Seriously, kudos to the Wisconsin staff.

Box: Carolina 5, Down East (Rangers) 2

Yeah, baby! As they so often have, the Mudcats save the day. What a fun season there.

Zamora’s Four-Hit Night Leads Carolina to 5-2 Win

Freddy Zamora homered and totaled a career high four hits while hitting cleanup for the first time

Loaded with goodness, and nice note about the college battery reuniting.

Congratulations on the successful affiliated debut, James Meeker!

***

It's not like the Mudcat position player roster is overflowing either - one extra bat beyond the two catchers not in the lineup each night.

Freddy Zamora OPS by month --

May .569 (26 AB's as he battled injury)

June .666 (80 AB's)

July .758 (96 AB's)

August thus far 1.066 (42 AB's)

Corey Ray has been raking since returning from injury.

And perhaps most importantly he is striking out at less than a 20% clip. If this isn't a blip, he suddenly becomes very interesting again.

Unless I'm missing something, he has 41 K's in 146 AB's for a 28% strikeout rate.

The August numbers since he returned are better. Even June before he went down was better than May. He actually only had about half a season of AAA experience coming into the season, so there could be something there yet. Taylor stalled out forever by comparison at AAA before taking another step.

Think Cheesehead was talking about the K rate since returning from injury.

Small sample of course, but only 8 Ks over 47 PAs (17% K rate) with a 357/426/667 triple slash since coming back.

Yep, I was talking about since he came back. Hopefully he can keep it lower even when he inevitably cools off a bit.
