Frelick with his first professional HR. Also, Valerio sure has been a joy to follow all year. Guy can just flat out hit.

Felix Valerio may be something special here. His secondary stats are really good especially for a 20yo in his first full season experience. More walks than Ks and just enough power to be intriguing

When an outfield assist is truly the lone highlight, you know it was a rough night.

RHP Dylan File only fanned one and did not walk a batter in his 5.2 rough innings. So, in the strike zone, yet hittable. Odd outing...

Garrett Mitchell (link to game logs) missed the last week of July with what was reported as a non-Covid illness.

He returned to play in four of the next five games.

But now he's been out another full week, having last played on Friday August 6th.

Wisconsin Powers Past Loons

Rattlers hit three homers to erase early deficit for a 10-4 win

By Chris Mehring

LG Castillo has only played in 51 of 87 Wisconsin games as the outfield rotation has been both crowded and talented. But it has thinned out some, and looking forward to seeing him in the lineup most nights.

***

Yeah, you want to watch this package.

Via "The Show" on WSCO (Thursday 8/12): "Chris Mehring (Voice of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers) discusses the movement of players being called up from Wisconsin and also his thoughts on some new guys joining the team"

AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Soundcloud: "Everything clicked for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Friday night. Three Homers. Three Double Plays. Four scoreless innings from the Bullpen for a 10-4 win over the Loons. Chris Mehring & Kyle Lobner discuss the game and more. Then, Joe Gray Jr., LG Castillo, and Bullpen Coach Michael O'Neal join the podcast from the clubhouse."

Frelick Hits Leadoff Homer in 12-11 Loss

Sal Frelick and Felix Valerio combined for six hits and seven RBI in Friday’s game in Kinston

You know when you see a final score like that, the game summary is critical, be sure to take it in.

Setback for LHP Antoine Kelly in terms of a rough night. Thoracic outlet syndrome surgery is a bear, man, and while we all have faith in Kelly's efforts to fully overcome it, it's going to be a long road with somewhat stacked odds.

Carolina coming out party for Sal Frelick, and yeah, pretty sure the Brewers are beyond glee with what they have in Felix Valerio.

Box: ACL Royals Gold 9, ACL Brewers Gold 2, seven innings

Bling vs. Bling.

It's been a rough Brewers organization debut for 20-year-old Dominican RHP Israel Puello, one of the three RHP's acquired in the David Phelps trade. Puello has made four brief rehab starts, not sure we're aware of the nature of his injury.

Offensive bright spot - 19-year-old CF Eduarqui Fernandez - HR (his 3rd), single and walk in three trips to the plate (OPS now .825).

Sometimes I try and wrap my head around a $1,100,000 signing bonus for the then-16-year-old Fernandez, or any of the big-money signings, and just wonder about the clubhouse dynamic between all the farmhands with virtually nothing in terms of baseball financials, and the huge money kids. There has to be soething to it, you can't just dance around it all season long.

Gold, Jerry, Gold!

Seinfeld fans, do yourself a favor and check out Doug Russell's podcast for his fantastic 23-minute interview with accomplished actor Steve Hytner, aka "Kenny Banya" (and so many other acting stints, IMDb at the link).

Hytner was in town for a recent Seinfeld Night with the Timber Rattlers.

Box, Game One: ACL Reds 5, ACL Brewers Blue 1

19-year old RHP Breiner Carvajal, who has not yet pitched for the Brewers at any level despite originally signing in November 2018, has been assigned to ACL Blue for rehab work.

In May of 2019, Carvajal underwent right labrum surgery. More than two years to get on a mound.

Unfortunately Carvajal could not navigate the first inning, but damn it, congratulations kid, you're a pro pitcher and good luck moving forward. Three of Carvajal's baserunners scored after his exit.

18-year-old infielder Jheremy Vargas and his blistering .958 OPS in his debut 16 July games has a .543 OPS in the small-sample nine August contests.

Box, Game One: DSL Brewers #2 Squad 3, DSL Mariners 2

Future big league closer, recently-turned-18-year-old Dominican RHP Henrison Mota, listed at 6'3", 195, has made four pro appearances. In five innings, he has yet to allow a hit (one BB, one HBP) for a tidy 0.20 WHIP.

*Should HBP's factor into WHIP? Of course, but then the acronym would get messy.

Three Cerveceros singles, five walks, and one HBP was enough offense to squeak out the win.

Box, Game Two: DSL Brewers #2 Squad 1, DSL Mariners 0, eight innings (scheduled for seven)

Walk-off win!

Nicaragua, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic represented on the mound in the shutout.

Again just three singles and two walks on offense (11 K's), but put it in the books for the good guys to go over .500 at 12-11.

After the Mariner Men did nothing with their ghost runner, the #2 Crew pushed the winner across without a base hit (sacrifice fly for 18-year-old Venezuelan third baseman Alexander Perez).

Box, Game One: DSL Phillies White 3, DSL Brewers #1 Squad 1

Crew pitchers allowed six hits and eight walks in six frames, so the final score is deceivingly close.

However, future big league rotation mainstay Patricio Aquino, a true 18-year-old (May birthday) out of the D.R., still has a 0.00 ERA after his first five pro starts (20.2 innings). Eleven walks, 28 K's.

Just four singles and one walk on offense, although future big league CF Hendry Mendez, the precocious LH-hitting 17-year-old, walked and singled to boost his already gaudy OPS to .973.

LF Luis Castillo was HBP in the 3rd, remained in the game, but was subsequently caught stealing, at which point he was then lifted.

Box, Game Two: DSL Phillies White 3, DSL Brewers #1 Squad 0

Crew hurlers only allowed two hits but walked six.

Just four singles and one walk on offense, although future big league CF Hendry Mendez, the precocious LH-hitting 17-year-old, walked and singled to boost his already gaudy OPS to .973.

A reminder that even 19-game samples are very small.

Mendez, as the DH in Game Two, was 0-for-4, and saw his OPS drop 70 points to .903.

But we cling to those stat lines, don't we? ;)

When 17-year-old 2B Gregory Barrios doubled in the 1st inning, it represented the two DSL teams only extra-base hit in their four Friday games.
