2021-08-12: Brewers (Woodruff) at Cubs (Hendricks) [Brewers win, 17-4 -- Crew batters combine for 22 hits including 11 extra base hits and 5 home runs]

I have come around on Pina. His average may never be high but a back up catcher with pop and great defense is valuable.

I’ve said it for awhile now. He’s the perfect backup. He should never be the main guy but he’s awesome as a backup.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I get Yelich is struggling but do we really need so many posts about it in an igt when the team is up 10? There is already a thread for it on the main page. Maybe I am in the minority but the Yelich stinks posts are feeling redundant at this point

Message received, but reminds me of

I wonder if David Ross resigns after the season? When the Cubs hired him so much was made how their group of guys respected him and he would be able to motivate them better than Joe Maddon, and now they're all gone, and Ross evades the question if it's time to move on from Arrieta until the GM does the dirty work for him and releases Arrieta. Ross would probably prefer to go back to TV than preside over this for another year or two (only to get fired when they're ready to win again).

I completely agree. And if the guy in front of him gets hurt for a bit and Pina needs to start for a few week Pina has been prone to some nice hot streaks.

I haven't heard anything regarding him but he might just get fired too for exactly what you said. He was brought in because he was close with that group and may be able to get them back playing up to their potential. We all see how that played out...he definitely isn't the main fault, but certainly not blameless either.

Reds fans must be enjoying this……especially after last night.

Why? There's an old adage in baseball: if your bullpen sucks, you suck.

The Reds bullpen even with Cessa, Givens and Lorenzen sucks.

Heath Hembree: FIP 4.60

Sean Doolittle: FIP 4.36

Amir Garrett: FIP 5.55

Justin Wilson: FIP 4.44

Jeff Hoffman: FIP 4.81

I really like watching JBJ play defense. If he can bounce back a bit next year offensively he'll be a huge asset.

It really is astounding that for as terrible as his bat has been, his excellent defense has basically made him average as an OF this year. If he had hit at all, or if he rebounds from here, he'd be a major contributor.
