At least on paper it appears there should be some runs scored early in this one.

Current Giants hitters career line versus Brett Anderson (91 plate appearances): .328 BA / .422 OBP / .485 SLG

Current Brewers hitters career line versus Johnny Cueto (80 plate appearances): .299 BA / .344 OBP / .470 SLG

The Brewers offense is going to have to step it up if they are going to survive this COVID surge without losing a significant part of their lead. In the last 4 games against teams not named Pirates they have only managed 1, 2, 1, and 2 runs through 9 innings. They were able to win two of those games with strong starts and strong outing from the top of the line relievers. But, those relievers cannot be available every night, and some games with fill in starters are coming up.

As shown by the Brewers in their recent series in Pittsburgh, and by the Reds in their current series, the Brewers totals of 6, 5, and 4 in this week’s series against the Pirates were not very impressive either.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Brewers are starting 8 lefties & Urius vs. Cueto today

If Shaw was healthy - it could have been 9 lefties (with Escobar at SS)

Good bench today: Adames, Cain, Garcia, Taylor + Pina

Hoping for a win today after the untimely miscue by Garcia for the 27th & final out last night

Reds remain red-hot … despite the competition

Hopefully Milwaukee can get past this 10-12 game stretch where they are severely handicapped by positive COVID tests

8 of the 9 players in the Brewers lineup will swing from the left-side while facing Johnny Cueto. If you’re wondering (because I was), Johnny Cueto has nearly identical platoon splits over the course of his career (.691 OPS for RHH, .700 OPS for LHH, a sample of nearly 8,500 plate appearances.

Regardless of righty lefty match-ups, I think it's a bad idea to sit Adames unless he tweaked something last night...

I agree ... although they need to fine ABs for Urias too. Escobar has been in there pretty much full time since he was acquired. Wong and Tellez have been hitting well. Someone has to sit to give Urias a start. Good problem to have.

Untimely miscue is one way to put it

Dude is typically very good in right field. Seems like a fair assessment to me. Not real sure how else it can be described. It's a catch that Garcia likely makes more than 99 times out of 100.

He's average in the outfield. Maybe slightly below average, slightly above on a good day. Not really a liability but I wouldn't say he's typically very good. He's typically solidly average.

I think he makes that catch more often than not. Not sure about better than 99% of the time though. Either way, the guy has been a plus player after I thought he was a waste of a roster spot last year. He gives me hope for JBJ next season.

He's 91st amongst outfielders in Outs Above Average in the league. As many pointed out, the guy who's 25th in the league probably should be on the field at the end of a tight game.

I didn't watch it until this morning, yikes that is a tough way to lose a game but you can argue that it was almost a HR so I guess we would have felt a bit lucky had he caught it. Like Wednesdays game after the late inning meltdown on Tuesday would really be nice to bounce back with a win today.

100% in agreement with you.

Would’ve been cool if one of you couch managers, just one, could have said something about bringing JBJ in before Garcia’s miscue last night. All this 20/20 hindsight is silly on what was a ball that should have been caught anyway. It hung up forever. It wasn’t a play that required a gold glover. It was a colossal mess up by a guy who has been solid in the field. The play he made on Yaz’ liner in the same inning was really good.

lol what?

Maybe I watched the wrong replay, wasn't it just short of the wall in right by the picnic area?

Yes it was, but I think he’s commenting on your premise.

It was a ball that was not hit particularly hard that had an expected BA of .010. It was a routine fly ball to a part of the park that made it seem more dangerous than it actually was.

Maybe you could call it lucky if there weren't "almost a HR" fly balls pretty much every game.
