Remaining Schedules

Guessing Peralta, Ashby, Lindblom, and Burnes vs the Cubs

What’s frightening about these games is that throwing fill in starters with a depleted bullpen behind them really negates the advantage the Brewers would usually have against teams like the Cubs and Pirates. I don’t want to count on giving up 7 runs in the first inning and coming back to win.

There’s nothing that can be done about it, but if the Brewers don’t win at least 4 or 5 of these 7 games it will feel like they are using more ground.

First of all, our bullpen should start returning to full strength during the Cubs series. Another positive is that it’s normally not possible to give a guy 10 days of rest during August. I think the team will be stronger in Sept and Oct because of this. It’s frustrating we’ve lost 3 of 4 and probably could have won all 4, but so be it.

I’m wondering when Cousins, Strickland, and Hader might be back. Counsell said something yesterday that was a confusing because he said Hader might be back “this week” and the other two later “next week”. That surprised me because Hader’s positive test was announced after the other two. He might have meant this week and next week to both be the upcoming week. The good news is that he said they were all doing well.

It will still be at least the Cardinals series before Lauer and Hauser will be ready.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

We don't know exact dates, symptoms, etc. We know the Journal Sentinel has reported Strickland and Cousins should be back mid-week. Hader sometime the following week.

Guessing Lauer will be available this weekend as 10 days would be this Thurs. So we could theoretically have Lauer and Houser pitch this weekend of piggyback.

Well, Lindblom started in AAA today. So I'm guessing they have some other plan. They can always start Burnes and Woodruff on regular 4 day rest, but that would go against their stated plans

Glass half full says all will be healthier and rested after COVID. Glass half empty says lingering effects can be part of the equation.

This is a good week to pick up a couple of games on the Reds as our schedule is a lot easier. That being said, nothing is a guarantee right now given our horrific bullpen situation. Hopefully we have a few blowout wins in us so we don't have to rely on the bullpen.

There is an above average chance that tonight’s game at Wrigley could be affected by rain. Doubleheaders are not ideal, but in this case the seven inning games could offer a little relief to the Brewers bullpen by removing four innings that would have to be covered to win games.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Has anyone seen any news on Brewers starter tuesday? Unless we go bullpen game, we will need fresh arm...and Ashby would start tomorrow on normal rest whether at AAA or mlb. So bringing him up certainly fits. Bullpen game, even against a non-contender...is probably just a giveup considering the current state of our bullpen, and even with a division lead we shouldn't just give away games.

I don't know if they have the bullpen depth right now to even have a bullpen game. I imagine we'll see a couple spot starts against the Cubs this week. Lindblom was pulled after 50 pitches last night, so I think he may go Thursday.

Ashby on Tuesday on normal rest makes sense. Burnes and Woodruff would go on Wednesday and Thursday on normal rest and then we would probably be looking at Lindblom on Friday. Not sure why they would have pulled Lindblom early yesterday though if they planned on pitching him on normal rest on Friday so who knows.

Lindblom might make more sense as a long relief guy in the next couple days than a spot starter.

Coach Cooper would hate this thread. Bunch of scoreboard watchers.

I don’t know what Coach Cooper you’re referring to, but scoreboard watching is fun and harmless for fans. With access to all games on something like mlb tv, it’s fun to pay attention to games other than Brewer games either because they affect the Brewers standing or players on our fantasy teams.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

[sarcasm]Coach Cooper is like Chuck Norris if Chuck does a 360 spinning leg kick he would reverse the rotation of the Earth, which is why Chuck Norris is not allowed to do a 360 spinning leg kick it is a fact look it up the internet said so.[/sarcasm]

Have to admit my WI sports pessimism kicked in yesterday with the lead down to 5 with Reds playing well and their schedule being so easy to finish along with our covid bullpen. You'd think the Bucks win would've helped with that but I guess it'll take time to kick the habit. No way I would've been able to play for Coach Cooper.

If Coach Cooper was a Cardinal fan, the BFIB would kick him out for being too intense about the unwritten rules.

It's really fun to be in a division race NOT with the Cubs or Cardinals for a change. The Cubs fans and Cardinals old timers(molina/waino) gross me out and I'm glad they aren't really involved here anymore. It's just generally a different feel not competing with our greatest enemies for a change.

Having players miss games is the only reason the Reds gained on us last week. Easily lost 2 games with the replacements and it was 3 wasn't it? That'd have been a 1game gain on the Reds then vs a 2 game loss. Truthfully, losing 2 games to the Giants helps them win the NL West. I have more confidence facing the Giants in a series than Dodgers and Padres for the fact that the Best players reside on those teams who could carry an offense. SF just has a group outperforming but imo don't have that take a game over hitting ability(Yelich was that role in '18/'19) The SPs held the Giants to 3Runs in 18IP. Would favor the Brewers so much with that side of the matchup. Add the proper group of Bullpen guys available to pitch every game feel we stand a good chance to sweep SF.

So Don't know what a record may be but only 4 games of the Padres last 37games did their opponent have an above .500 record at time of game. As it stands that will extend to 46 games until they face the Phillies who could actually be a .500 or worse team by that time if they go on a losing streak. Game #50 then would end that stretch vs the Dodgers.

Those 4 games were vs Oakland an AL team.

I’ll be fairly surprised if the Cardinals finish the season with a winning record. They seems to have too many flaws to expect they’ll go on any sort of sustained run.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

The Brewers and Reds have 48 games remaining. The Cardinals have 50 games remaining.

If the Brewers went .500 the rest of the season (24-24), the Reds would have to go 31-17 to tie them and the Cardinals would have to go 36-14 to tie them.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I know that we as Brewer fans are always going to have some Cardinals-related PTSD, but that team is circling the drain.

Even though the Reds have a much easier schedule the rest of the way, we have Pittsburgh and the Reds have the Phillies this weekend. Philly is playing really good ball right now, so if by the end of the weekend we can get the lead up to 10 games, the schedule shouldn't matter.

After this weekend, there will be 7 weeks left. So, one way to look at it is that the Reds have to gain a game a week, and the schedule gives them some good opportunities to do that, starting next week when they have a home stand with 7 games against the Cubs and Marlins to set them up for the Brewers series the next week. The week after that the Brewers play 4 in SF while the Reds have a home series against the Tigers. In September the Reds have a 3 game series against the Cubs or Pirates each of the 4 weeks.

The Brewers have won their last 9 against the Cubs and 8 of their last 9 against the Pirates. It isn’t hard to imagine the Reds winning 13 or 14 of their 15 games left against those teams. The Brewers have a nice cushion, but there’s a lot of baseball still to be played.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yeah, they would have to go on a run. But it is not a reach at all.

Schedule….

7 Cubs

7 Pirates

13 Brewers

3 Royals

2 Tigers

Also, out last 6 games are in St. Louis and Dodgers…..
