2021-08-04: Pirates (Brault) at Brewers (Peralta) [Brewers win, 4-2 -- Tellez pinch hit 3-run HR proves the difference; Williams secures the save]

Eye Black

Whew, a big win.

Now they can take a step back, take stock of what the heck happened this last week, and decide how to approach next week with all of the new pieces on the pitching staff.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Big win, I know it's the Pirates but after last night wasn't feeling great about our bullpen right now and losing a home series to these guys would have hurt. Whew

Yeah, kind of odd to feel like this was a big win, but it sure did feel that way.

Apparently whatever the Reds do you can book it the Brewers will do the same

I will be very pleasantly surprised if that holds through this weekend.

Stole one today. Makes up for last nights disaster.

Ill take 2 out of 3 and 5 out of 6 versus the stinky Pirates.

Reds lost at home yesterday to the Twins. No different than the Brewers losing to the Pirates at home.

The Reds will occasionally lose to bad teams too. They won't go undefeated.

Hasn't it been observed more than once that the Brewers tend to win when they score 4 runs or more? With their pitching, that seems to be a good number for them.

If I counted right the Brewers are 55-9 this season when scoring four or more.

I think that is the magic number where your probability of win goes past 60%. It has been awhile since I have looked at that information but 4 runs is where I think it surpasses the break even point. Might actually be 4.3 runs per game or something like that but that would be the average over a whole season.

Yes, I think most people understand that teams don’t go undefeated.

Last night’s game was exceptionally galling, not just because of blowing a 4 run lead to the last place Pirates, but because it highlighted the problems presented by the COVID crap. How often does a team lose half of its 8 man bullpen in the space of 3 days, including its All Star closer, and the 4th and 5th top options out of the pen? And at the same time wonder if and when the loss of players is going to end? The new relievers have performed poorly, so it raises concerns about whether the bullpen is going to cost the team multiple games over the next couple of weeks until some of these guys can come back and get back into game shape.
