Kind of a silly statement if he is still bringing the heat and has had minor league success this season. How deep do you think our bullpen is??

The man is 38, hasn't cracked any big league bullpen recently and hasn't pitched at this level in 3 years. How good do you think modern day John Axford is?

I'd say the 8.9 K/9, 4.14 ERA, 4.20 FIP line that projection systems peg him for (which already heavily factor in age) is not unrealistic. Nobody is expecting 2011 Axford to come back and anchor the bullpen with Hader. This is a revolving door mop-up position to eat innings down the stretch.

I'd actually like to see the Brewers sign Escobar to an extension. The last time he was traded at the deadline, he signed an extension before free agency began that I thought was below market. I'd like to see history repeat itself.

Coverage of 1B and 3B will be needed. Stearns has had worse ideas.

It was nice to see Axford in a Brewers uniform again. Let's never do that again... I think Stearns got robbed in that trade. Maybe he can get his dollar back.

Its not like we did not have options at AAA. Luke Barker says hello

Loved seeing Ax on the mound again, nonetheless.

Yeah, those in AA/AAA had to be wondering about the Axford move.

I've come to the conclusion that the Brewers don't like Luke Barker as anything more than a AAA arm.

That could be, but they gave Cousins, Sanchez, and Gustave a chance this year. You could argue Barker has as good as or better numbers. Barker has a 0.643 WHIP this year. In 2019 he had 0.646 between two levels. K/9 above 9 in both years. Career walk rate at 2.2 per 9. Crazy good numbers. Seems odd to not try him.

All those guys throw the baseball in the upper 90s. Barker does not.
