Box: DSL Brewers #1 Squad 7, DSL Mets #2 Squad 0, seven innings

Cerveceros pitchers limited the Mets to 1-for-11 with RISP, and the one hit did not score a run (obviously). Had to dance around six singles and five walks. Ten K's helped.

In his age 18 season, Dominican RHP Patricio Aquino still has not allowed a run (20 K's, 4 BB in 12 IP). It's always encouraging when the Brewers identify a pitcher as a starter right from the beginning and the results immediately justify the longer leash.

The other two pitchers, 19-year-old Venezuelan RHP Miguel Segura and 19-year-old Dominican 2nd-year-pro RHP Stanley Encarnacion have combined with Aquino for 31.1 scoreless innings in 2021!

Positive contributions at the plate from the first eight in the lineup, including a triple from 17-year-old Dominican LH bat CF Hendry Mendez, now sporting a .371/.450/.657 line (1.107 OPS) over his first 13 pro games. He committed his first error of the season.

Box: DSL Diamondbacks #2 Squad 4, DSL Brewers #2 Squad 3, eight innings (scheduled for seven)

A two-out walk forced in the eventual "losing" run in the top of the final inning.

In the bottom of the 8th, the Crew got the ghost runner to 3rd with one out, but the runner did not attempt to score on a groundball to short, infield in (we certainly assume).

Top signing CF Jackson Chourio singled to lead off the 6th. Then, after a flyout, he was pinch-run for. Odd.

17-year-old Venezuelan LF (and the too-rare LH bat) Yeison Perez immediately left the game after reaching on an infield single in the 2nd.

18-year-old Dominican Luis Watter stole three bases to give him six on the season. Listed as a second baseman, he split time at 3B and CF here.

***

Soon-to-be-20-year-old RHP Dominican RHP Domingo Mejia has been fine in his first three pro starts.

Hillcats lose a heartbreaker as Carolina rallies late

Via the "News and Advance"

For eight innings Friday, Lynchburg pitchers confounded Carolina. Then the Mudcats bats came alive in the top of the ninth and a Lynchburg comeback bid in the bottom half fell short as the Mudcats snapped Lynchburg's four-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory at a steamy Bank of the James Stadium.

Lynchburg starter Lenny Torres and reliever Zach Hart were sensational through eight. Torres threw five innings, gave up just two hits, walked one and struck out six over five innings. Hart didn't allow a hit and fanned four in three innings of work.

But Carolina battered right-hander Serafino Brito in the ninth, tagging the Brooklyn native for four runs, all earned, on five hits across 2/3 of an inning. It was Brito's first appearance for Lynchburg this season.

On Friday, Lynchburg took a 1-0 lead in the fourth off an RBI single by Johnathan Rodriguez and went up 2-0 in the seventh on a single to center by Andres Melendez, the former Brewer farmhand traded to the Indians for Mark Mathias.

Carolina (45-31) hit Brito hard in the ninth, most notably receiving a run-scoring single from Micah Bello and a line-drive, two-run homer to left from Joey Wiemer.

Lynchburg scored once in the ninth when Jhonkensy Noel entered as a pinch hitter and singled home Korey Holland. Lynchburg threatened to walk this one off against closer Cam Robinson, and put runners at first and second with one out. But Robinson struck out Yordys Valdes and Petey Halpin to end the game.

Game 5 of the six-game series is scheduled for Saturday.

Box: ACL Mariners 8, ACL Brewers Gold 5, seven innings

The good guys trailed 7-0 after two, rough night in the desert.

Soon-to-be 18-year-old Venezuelan RHP Yujanyer Herrera struggled in his start. One wonders what factors lead to the stateside vs. DSL debuts, could the player's fluency in English be a factor?

Mario Feliciano was the DH, 2-for-4 (double). His 25 Maryvale at-bats have gone swimmingly.

Hedbert! 2-for-4, now .327/.373/.509.
