Curtiss has only given up more than 1 hit three times in his last 22 appearances. And he's only given up more than 1 run once in his last 24 appearances. Unfortunately, we just saw his worst outing of the year right off the bat. First impressions are hard to forget, but I think he just needs to rattle off a few clean innings and he'll eventually prove to be a really nice pickup for the next few years.

I'd have to go back and confirm, but I'm pretty sure that two of his outings were negatively impacted by poorly timed errors that allowed runs to score. Considering that they used him probably too much in such a short period of time, I think it's reasonable (assuming of course he's able to pitch and this injury is minor) to think he may do better under more normal usage situations.

Man that is a major bummer. Glad we have him under control though so his few outings here aren't his entire time with the org.

Yeah, I was excited about this trade because he looked to be a good pitcher, and he would be a part of the bullpen for a long time. It's unfortunate for him and the team that this happened.

On the bright side, he's only going to be in his first year of arby in 2023, which will probably be his first full year back. He shouldn't be too expensive heading into arby, and hopefully he can come back strong and be a big contributor to our playoff runs in '23, '24, and '25. Best of luck to him as he heals up and heads into his rehab program.

He'll probably be cheap, too, and it might be interesting to see if he'll take a deal that buys out not just arby, but some free-agent years as well.

The Brewers are not going to hand a guaranteed long-term deal to a middle reliever who just had TJ surgery. Not everyone is an extension candidate, clancy.

Yeah. Eric Lauer, if you believe in his arm, might be a guy you might consider approaching on a Peralta type extension to see if he wanted to sacrifice some possible money for long-term security.

Curtiss is a guy they will probably keep around next year only because he'll cost league minimum anyway and probably give a shot to him in 2023 if he's looking good and non-tender him in spring of '23 if he's not and then go from there. Nothing more.

In his short 76 game career, he has a 23.8% K%, 6.6% BB%, 87 ERA- and 89 FIP-

I'd guess that Stearns got him to be an important long-term piece for the bullpen. The TJ surgery delays that, but I think he'll get a long look when he's back healthy.
