2021-07-29: Brewers (Peralta) at Pirates (Kuhl) [Brewers win, 12-0 -- Piña with 3 hits, 2 HR, 5 RBI; Freddy keeps rolling]

Eye Black
Pirates going up hacking. Lots of first pitches put in play. Probably want to get this disaster over with and head to the bar.

I often wonder how often these guys head out after games.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Tellez is an impressive first baseman. Difference is noticeable with the long reach, really good mechanics vs. the guys who were playing there out of position. Seems it's prevented a couple of baserunners this series.

I wonder if Vogelbach's roster spot, in addition to Shaw's, is in any danger.

The Brewers need (or at least could use) another big bat for those low scoring games that are more common against better teams, and that the Brewers have had plenty of against teams not named Pirates, Rockies, Diamondbacks or Cubs. If they could level off some of the feast or famine offense, they might be able to create more save opportunities and win more of those games in which the pitchers only allow 2 or 3 runs.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Omar, Manny, Rowdy, Kolten, Willy, Luis, Escobar, Jace, Yelich, Cain, Avisail, JBJ, Tyrone is 13 when everyone is healthy.

Are you saying they’re not winning properly? That they should create more save opportunities instead of blowing teams out? #FireHaines

This exactly...I know people have said they are satisfied with the offense, particularly since the All star game, but...we need to keep in mind the staffs they have faced. The offense is unlikely to look like this in the playoffs vs the Dodgers/Padres/Giants staffs. That's why i am a huge proponent of adding another big bat(s) before tomorrow. You can never have too many.

I'd love a big bat. Where do we put it at this point though? I guess 1st or 3rd but it's hard not to be happy with Urias/Escobar at 3rd and Tellez/Escobar at 1st either. For a 2-3 month stretch those guys may outplay any big bat you get anyways. Again, I'd be stoked seeing a Donaldson or Mancini added to the daily lineup, but it's harder to justify their costs considering what we already have. That said, if it ends up costing less than expected, sure go for it!

The expected top two offensive contributors have been pretty bad and worst-hitter-in-baseball bad, the top signing is OPSing about 200 points below expectations.

Stearns needs some credit for the in-season pivots. Looks to have acquired two good bats and has a third coming, at a cost that no one can complain about.

I'd have given Freddy another inning...or three. Did I mention he's on my fantasy team?

I'm sure many will be disappointed if we don't trade for a big name 1B, but honestly between his hot start after the trade, his 2020 and career stats, and his projections, Tellez is a really good add and probably just as good as anybody on the trade market.

Just need to go out and get a RP/SP and call it a day.

It has to be. With Cain back and Escobar coming they are really improving depth and bench in addition to the starting lineup. And with so many pitchers they can’t really afford to have two guys who are purely left handed hitting first basemen, unless they think they have enough versatility that they can afford someone to be just a pinch hitter.

I regret not purchasing a "Yosted" t-shirt back in the day.

I saw a guy hawking UPS inspired "What Can Braun Do For You?" shirts outside one of the Bluemound bars. He was not doing well.

It would be nice to see a brewer starter get a shutout again,it’s been so long I am starting to convince myself shutouts aren’t really all that cool anyways.

Going to be tough but he’s gotta be in the Cy Young race. If he has a really strong finish, ya just never know.
